In Loving Memory

Leatha Camille Hicks
March 17, 1935 — April 24, 2026
It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Leatha Camille Hicks, who departed this world peacefully at her home in Oxford, MS, on April 24, 2026, at the age of 91. Her life, a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith, will be celebrated and cherished by all who had the privilege to know her.
Born on March 17, 1935, in the vibrant city of Memphis, TN, Leatha was the cherished daughter of Lottie and Willie Johnson. From an early age, Leatha embodied the virtues of kindness and compassion, traits that would define her life’s journey. Her gentle spirit and loving nature left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Leatha shared an extraordinary bond with her twin sister, Reatha Johnson, a connection that remained unbroken throughout their lives. Together, they navigated the joys and challenges of life, creating memories that Reatha will hold dear forever.
In 1965, Leatha married the love of her life, George Hicks, with whom she shared 61 beautiful years of marriage. Their love story began as children at St. Luke COGIC, their shared faith and devotion forming the foundation of a lifelong partnership. Together, they raised a wonderful family, instilling in their children the values of love, integrity, and community.
Leatha was the proud and devoted mother to four daughters: Debra Joyner, Carolyn Collins, Brenda McKinney, and Sharon Stewart. Her legacy extends through her seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a part of her gentle spirit and warmth. Her extended family, including a host of nieces and nephews, will remember her as a beacon of love and support.
For 30 years, Leatha worked as a florist, where her artistic talent and passion for beauty blossomed. Her arrangements were more than just flowers; they were expressions of joy and celebration, crafted with care and a personal touch. Beyond her career, Leatha found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved to fish, read, and shop, and she delighted in making homemade ice cream with her grandchildren, creating sweet memories that they will cherish forever.
Leatha’s heart was as vast as it was kind. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, her actions driven by a desire to see others smile. Her selflessness and compassion were pillars in her community, and her infectious spirit brought warmth and comfort to all who knew her.
Leatha was predeceased by her beloved husband, George, her sisters Estelle, Ida, Emma, and Maxine Johnson, and her brothers Robert and Isaac Johnson. While her absence leaves an irreplaceable void, we find comfort in knowing that she is reunited with them in eternal peace.
A service to honor and celebrate Leatha’s remarkable life will be held on May 1, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Lowell Chapel, 5033 Brunswick St., Oxford, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to St. Luke COGIC, a testament to Leatha’s enduring faith and love for her church community.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their kind words, donations, and loving messages during this difficult time. Your support is a testament to the impact Leatha had on all of us.
Leatha Camille Hicks will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, friend, and community member. Her spirit will continue to guide us, inspiring us to live with the same grace and compassion that she exemplified every day of her life.
