It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lawrence Ronald Van Gelder, who left this world peacefully at his home on September 27, 2026. Born on June 2, 1942, in Lyons, New York, Lawrence was the beloved son of Leon and Mary Elizabeth Van Gelder. His life was a testament to dedication, love, and the profound impact one person can have on family and community.
Lawrence was a devoted family man, predeceased by his beloved wife, Darlene Ruby Van Gelder, and his ex-wife, Carol May Bellew. He is survived by his cherished children: Cindy (Melvin) Miles, Gina (Darrell) Kuehl, Virginia Solano, Larry (Janet) Van Gelder, Brandon (Barbara) Van Gelder, David Solano, and Allen Merrill. His legacy of love continues through his 18 grandchildren—Paden, Kelsey, Megan, Rachel, Jarrid, Larry II, Jeremy, Timothy, Cassandra, Christopher, Adron, and Arianna—and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Kathleen Rodgers.
In his early years, Lawrence answered the call of duty, serving in the US Army for two years, where he earned a commendation for Expert Marksmanship. Following his military service, he dedicated 23 years of his career to the Colorado Department of Corrections, retiring in 1998 with a legacy of integrity and commitment.
A man of faith, Lawrence was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, offering guidance and support to his fellow congregants. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength and comfort throughout his journey.
Beyond his professional and religious commitments, Lawrence was an avid bowler, finding joy and camaraderie in the lanes. He cherished every moment spent with his family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured by all who knew him.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Lawrence's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of choice, reflecting Lawrence's spirit of giving and community.
Lawrence Ronald Van Gelder will be greatly missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a beautiful blend of service, love, and unwavering devotion to family and faith. As his family so poignantly expresses, he will always be in our hearts.
