Lawrence James French Young, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on July 1, 2026, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Born on September 7, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois, Lawrence lived a life filled with love, dedication, and an unyielding spirit that touched everyone who crossed his path.
Lawrence was the beloved son of the late Miller Young and Dorothy Young and the cherished grandson of Jimmy and Barbara Alexander. He was predeceased by his brother, RC French, his sister, Barbara French Cole, and his first wife, Sylvia Gentry French. Despite these profound losses, Lawrence remained a pillar of strength and resilience for his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Bernice W. French, who stood by his side with unwavering love and support. Lawrence's legacy continues through his children, Renee French, Deidre Gentry, Delisa French, Quanta Clay, George Clay, and Jesse Clay, who each carry forward his values and spirit. He was a proud grandfather and uncle, leaving behind a host of grandchildren and nieces in Holmes County, who will forever cherish his memory.
Lawrence's siblings, Mr. Jimmy French of Kosciusko, Mississippi, and Clay Beard, along with his wife Peggy, will hold dear the countless memories they shared. His smile, a beacon of warmth and kindness, will be remembered by all who knew him.
An alumnus of Kosciusko, Mississippi, and Attala County, Lawrence was a dedicated student who took great pride in his education. His professional career was marked by his long-standing service and commitment at Hunter Engineering, where he eventually retired. His colleagues and friends will remember him for his work ethic and integrity.
Throughout his life, Lawrence was known for his infectious smile and the joy he brought to others.
