In Loving Memory

LAWRENCE 'JABBOW' MARTIN
October 16, 1963 — July 14, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lawrence 'Jabbow' Martin, who left us peacefully on July 14, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends in the comfort of his home. Born on October 16, 1963, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Jabbow lived a life full of commitment, passion, and love. He bravely battled cancer with unwavering strength and dignity, leaving us with memories of a truly remarkable man.
Jabbow was the beloved son of Lina Martin-Thompkins, who survives him. His legacy continues through his cherished children, Leshandra Delcena Martin, Ashley Major, and Lawrence Aaronson Martin II, affectionately known as Boogie. Jabbow's spirit will also live on through his grandchildren, Jaylen Kinsey, Allaha Martin, Jacari Martin, and Justice Martin, who brought immense joy to his life. He also shared special bonds with his bonus children, Latte Wright, Nick Mulfort, Britania Bryant, and Dominique.
A proud graduate of Plantation High School (Class of 1981) and The University of Florida (Class of 1985), Jabbow was a lifelong learner and an advocate for education. His professional journey spanned over three decades in the Community Corrections field, culminating in his retirement as the Chief of the Federal Probation Office in the Eastern District of Louisiana in 2018. Jabbow was deeply committed to helping individuals and families reconnect after periods of incarceration, a testament to his compassionate nature and belief in second chances.
Jabbow's dedication to community and fellowship extended beyond his career. He was a member of the First Baptist Church Piney Grove, a Life Member of the Prince Hall Masons of Florida, and a devoted member of the Zeta Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. since 2001. His leadership and camaraderie also enriched the Broward Estates St. George Home Owners Association. Jabbow also served a four (4) year term as a City Commission in the City of Lauderhill, Florida.
Renowned as one of the area's most celebrated Disc Jockeys, Jabbow's talent and passion for music transcended borders, bringing joy to audiences in Florida, Georgia, and beyond. The MFY DJs, a group he cherished, will continue his musical legacy, led by his son and original members, Robert Mckenzie, Miguel Burteux, William Stratchen, Jeff Marshall, Rex Warner, James Floyd, Johnny Smith, Terry Shepard, Kirk Martin and Dwayne Taylor, who shared Jabbow's love for music.
Jabbow was a man of immense kindness, always ready to lend a hand to those in need. He had a profound love for the underdog and was committed to supporting youth and seniors, believing in the importance of uplifting others.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Denise Pendergrass, whose unwavering support was a source of strength for Jabbow throughout his cancer journey. Her dedication and love were invaluable, bringing comfort during challenging times.
The details for Jabbow's celebration of life service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Jabbow's honor.
Jabbow will be dearly missed, but his spirit, love, and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
