Lawrence George Clayton

February 27, 1948 — April 16, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence George Clayton, affectionately known as "Larry," on April 16, 2026. Larry departed this world peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Mike Conley Hospice House in Clairmont, Florida, after a valiant battle with illness. He was 78 years old. Born on February 27, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio, Larry was the cherished son of Alda and Clara Clayton. He grew up in a close-knit family, alongside his siblings James, Lucille, and Carl. Larry's upbringing in Toledo laid the groundwork for a life built upon the values of hard work, dedication, and unwavering love for family. Larry attended Woodward High School, graduating in 1966. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Navy, where he served honorably from 1966 to 1972. His time in the Navy instilled in him a sense of duty and commitment that he carried throughout his life. Following his military service, Larry embarked on a remarkable 44-year career in manufacturing, working with distinction at Devilbiss Co. and NSS Enterprises. Larry was a proud member of the UAW Local 12 union, where he held various leadership roles and contributed to numerous committees. His dedication to his work and his colleagues was a testament to his character and integrity. Larry's love for his community extended beyond his professional life. After retiring at the age of 62, he devoted his time to delivering meals to those in need for seven years, providing nourishment and companionship to many until his health no longer permitted it. He was also a valued member of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America (PRCUA), where he found kinship and shared his faith. Family was the cornerstone of Larry's life. He is survived by his adoring children: son Troy (Kim) Clayton, daughters Lori (Ken) Pereyra and Courtney Griffiths. His presence will be deeply missed by his brother Carl (Maureen) Clayton and his beloved grandchildren Tyler, Trent (Mallory), Evelyn, Thomas, Nathan, Jonah, James, Asher, Tristan, Cullen, and Sunny. Larry also leaves behind his great-grandchildren Calvin and Caiya, who brought immense joy to his later years. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Alda and Clara, his brother James, and his sister Lucille. Though he never married, Larry cultivated a wide circle of friends who enriched his life and cherished his warm, generous spirit. He found great joy in simple pleasures: reading the newspaper, conversing about the weather, and cheering on his favorite football teams. His home was often filled with laughter and the comfort of good company as he welcomed friends and family to share stories and create enduring memories. A service celebrating Larry's life will take place at Toledo Memorial Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest among his ancestors and near the community he loved so dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Southlake Hospital, Clairmont, Florida, in honor of the exceptional care and compassion Larry received during his final days. Larry's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His unwavering kindness, dedication to service, and love for his family will forever be remembered. As we say goodbye to a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, we hold tight to the memories and the love he shared so freely.
