It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence Edwards, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend. Lawrence left this world peacefully on May 15, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on July 2, 1955, in El Campo, Texas, Lawrence was a beacon of kindness and generosity throughout his life. Lawrence was the devoted son of Elizabeth Mitchell, who predeceased him, along with his sister, Anne Luke. Despite these early losses, Lawrence’s spirit remained resilient and filled with warmth. His love and dedication to his family were unwavering, and he leaves behind a legacy of compassion and strength. On June 15, 1992, Lawrence married the love of his life, Shirley Edwards, in their hometown of El Campo. Together, they raised a beautiful, blended family of six children: Tawanna Lewis, Tawala Briggs, Emmanuel Guillory, Rachel Guillory, Lawrence Edwards Jr., and Keith Edwards. Lawrence was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren, and the family continued to grow with the joy of 3 great-grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy, and he instilled in them the values of kindness, resilience, and love. A proud graduate of El Campo High School in 1972, Lawrence’s sense of duty led him to enlist in the United States Air Force immediately after graduation. Serving with honor from 1972 to 1976, he achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant, exemplifying his dedication and leadership. Following his military service, Lawrence embarked on a long and fulfilling career at the Harris County Public Library, where he worked from 1977 until his retirement in 2020. His passion for books and community service left an indelible mark on all who knew him. For over 40 years, Lawrence was an active member of the South Houston Baptist Church, where his faith and commitment to helping others shone brightly. He was known for his warm smile, his willingness to help those in need, and his belief in the strength of community. Lawrence found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved cooking and often gathered friends and family to share laughter and delicious meals. His generous nature was legendary—he truly would give you the shirt off his back. A service to celebrate Lawrence's remarkable life will be held on May 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the South Houston Baptist Church, located at 7601 Cullen Blvd, Houston, TX. As the family comes together to honor his memory, they invite all who knew Lawrence to join in this celebration of a life well-lived. The Edwards family kindly asks for your prayers during this difficult time. Lawrence’s legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all those he touched. May we remember him for the joy he brought into our lives and the love he shared so freely. In honoring Lawrence’s memory, let us carry forward his spirit of generosity, compassion, and unwavering love.
