In loving memory of Lawrence Edward Smith Jr., who passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on January 19, 1954, in Vallejo, California, Lawrence was a beacon of strength, love, and perseverance throughout his life. Lawrence was a devoted son of the late Lawrence Smith Sr. and Ernestine Smith Warren, and he shared a special bond with his parents and his late brother, Jimmy Smith, who preceded him in death. Their love and guidance shaped the compassionate man Lawrence became, and he carried their legacy forward through his own family. He was a loving husband to Roschelle Pierce, with whom he shared a devoted marriage of over 40 years since they wed on May 4, 1985, in their beloved Vallejo. Together, they built a family rooted in love and respect, creating countless cherished memories. Lawrence was an adoring father to his daughter Latasha Harris, who was his pride and joy. He further embraced fatherhood with the same unwavering dedication and warmth as a stepfather to Spencer Pierce. Lawrence’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Danyell Williams, Daynell Williams, Latasia Harris, Jeffrey Harris, and Rene Harris, and his great-grandchildren, Tayeonna, Tay’Lionna, Tay’Mionna, Tay'Vionna, Josiah, Jameir, and Daniel. Each of them carries a piece of his heart, and his love will continue to guide them in their journeys. A proud veteran, Lawrence served his country with honor in the US Army Reserves from 1973 to 1975. His dedication to service was a testament to his character, demonstrating his commitment to protecting and supporting those he held dear. Family was the cornerstone of Lawrence's life. He leaves behind his loving siblings, Bruce, Bobby, David, Dora, and Robert, who shared in his joys and provided support during times of need. Lawrence cherished his extended family, which includes a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a dear friend, Rodney, who were all touched by his kindness and generosity. Lawrence's life was a testament to resilience and love, and his memory will be eternally cherished by all who knew him. His kindness, humor, and unwavering commitment to his family and friends will be dearly missed but never forgotten. A service to celebrate Lawrence's remarkable life will be held on April 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Veteran Hall on Admiral Callaghan Lane. In honoring his memory, let us gather to share stories, laughter, and tears, as we remember the extraordinary man who touched so many lives. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lawrence's name to a charity supporting cancer research, to help others in their fight against this disease. Lawrence believed in the power of community and giving back, and through this, his spirit will continue to make a difference. As we say goodbye to Lawrence, let us take comfort in the lasting impact he made and the love he shared with us all. Rest in peace, dear Lawrence, knowing your life was a beacon of love and inspiration.
