Lawrence Dupree Hawkins Sr.

June 3, 1964 — May 19, 2026

Lawrence Dupree Hawkins Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, veteran, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, in the comforting embrace of his family and the compassionate care of Baptist Memorial Hospital. Born on June 3, 1964, in the heart of Memphis, Lawrence lived a life full of love, laughter, and purpose until his passing at the age of 61, after a courageous battle with cancer. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Lawrence embodied the noble values of discipline and service, which he carried into every aspect of his life. His commitment to helping others was not confined to his time in uniform; it was a beacon of his character. Those who served alongside him remember him as a steadfast comrade, always ready to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement. His protective nature was as strong as his generous heart, traits that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Lawrence's greatest joy, however, was found in the warmth of his home and the company of his family. An excellent cook, he turned every meal into a celebration, bringing people together around the table with his culinary talents and infectious laughter. His home was a sanctuary, a place of comfort and joy, where his love for family was the secret ingredient in every dish and the foundation of every gathering. To his children, Lawrence and Delandria, he was not just a father but a pillar of strength and a source of unconditional love. His grandchildren, eight in number, were his pride and joy, each one holding a special place in his heart. He also had the blessing of a great-grandchild, to whom he was a gentle and loving great-grandfather. His love for them was boundless, a legacy of warmth and unity that will continue to guide and inspire them. Lawrence is survived by his ex-wife, Brenda Hawkins, who, along with their children and extended family, will cherish his memory and the countless moments of joy he brought into their lives. His enduring spirit will live on in the stories shared and the laughter remembered. A service to honor and celebrate Lawrence's life will be held on June 20, 2026, at 1:30 PM at the First Evangelical Church, located at 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable man whose life was a testament to love, service, and family. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Baptist Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care during Lawrence's final days. In lieu of flowers, they ask that donations be made in his memory to cancer research or a veterans' charity of your choice, continuing Lawrence's legacy of giving and service. Though Lawrence is no longer with us in body, his spirit endures in the hearts of those he touched. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that brought joy, laughter, and love to so many. May his journey be peaceful, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
