It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lawrence Carlyle Hughes, who departed this life on March 22, 2026, at the age of 55. Born on July 1, 1970, in Newark, New Jersey, Lawrence was a beacon of light and love, whose presence touched the lives of all who had the privilege to know him. Lawrence was the beloved son of the late Thomas Lee Hughes and Shirley Ann Burks, who instilled in him the values of kindness and generosity that he carried throughout his life. He was also predeceased by his cherished brother, Terrance Hughes. Despite the loss of his immediate family, Lawrence forged ahead with resilience and strength, dedicated to creating a loving environment for his own children. A proud alumnus of Central High in Newark, Lawrence completed his senior year at Western High School in Anaheim, California, where he continued to excel academically and personally. His thirst for knowledge led him to the Institute of Technology (ITT) in Corona, California, where he honed his skills and embarked on a career defined by dedication and integrity. Lawrence was a man of exceptional character, known far and wide for his ability to make everyone feel welcome. His home was a sanctuary of warmth, where friends and family gathered to enjoy his infectious laughter and generous spirit. His kindness knew no bounds, and his unwavering dedication to those he loved was evident in every aspect of his life. Above all, Lawrence was a devoted father to his two beloved children, Kimora Sanaa Hughes and Jamir Nasir Hughes, who were the center of his universe. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and was their greatest champion, offering them wisdom, love, and support every step of the way. His legacy lives on through them, a testament to the values he held dear. As we bid farewell to Lawrence, we remember him not with sorrow but with gratitude for the indelible mark he left on our hearts. His life was a testament to the power of kindness and the beauty of a soul that knew how to love unconditionally. A celebration of Lawrence's life will be held to honor his memory and the joy he brought to those around him.
