Lavone Marie Koernke

August 24, 1942 — September 18, 2026

Lavone Marie Koernke, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026. Born on August 24, 1942, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Lavone was the cherished daughter of the late Dallas and Olga Ackerman. Lavone's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and dedication. She graduated from Pioneer High School in 1960 and pursued higher education at Eastern Michigan University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Biology. Her academic pursuits were a testament to her love for learning and her commitment to personal growth. Lavone chose to dedicate her life to nurturing her family and was a devoted stay-at-home mother, carefully tending to the needs of her household and raising her two children, Martha and Matthew, alongside her loving husband, William. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family to her five grandchildren: Colton, Mary, Parker, Brennen, and Erika, all of whom she adored deeply. A woman of faith, Lavone was an active member of her church community, where she found joy and purpose leading numerous Bible study groups. Her involvement touched the lives of many, fostering a sense of community and spiritual growth among those she guided. Lavone was a true Renaissance woman, with a zest for life that was reflected in her diverse hobbies and interests. An avid fisher and hunter, she was renowned for her ability to bag her deer on opening day, humorously claiming she had "too much to do than sit in the woods and freeze all season." Her garden was a living testament to her love of nature, and she devoted countless mornings to tending to its beauty. Creative and resourceful, Lavone found joy in sewing, knitting, and piecing together intricate jigsaw puzzles, especially during Thanksgiving, when she would eagerly tackle a new puzzle with her family. Known for her quick wit and humor, Lavone often reminded her loved ones to find humor in life's challenges, famously quipping, "when the lawnmower runs over your foot, don't come running to me." Her creativity and playful spirit were evident in every handmade Halloween costume, Easter basket, and school project she lovingly crafted. Lavone is survived by her devoted husband, William, her children, Martha and Matthew, and her grandchildren, Colton, Mary, Parker, Brennen, and Erika. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved family members, Dallas and Olga Ackerman. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to celebrate Lavone's remarkable life at a service on September 24, 2026, at Barlow Funeral Home, located at 2675 E John Rowan Blvd., Bardstown, KY 40004.
