It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Lavern Harris-Wellington, who left this world peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on February 25, 2026. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Lavern graced this world with her presence on February 5, 1952, as a cherished daughter to Alease Harris. Lavern's life was a testament to love, kindness, and unwavering faith. She was a devoted sister, a treasured friend, and a respected colleague, whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her. Lavern was predeceased by her beloved partner in life, Mitchell Tyrone Wellington, whose memory she held dear until her final breath. She is survived by her loving siblings: brothers Ronald Harris, Thomas Harris, and Samual Vaughn; and sisters Lisa Harris, Joy Harris, Edwina Brodie, and Margaret Brodie. Each one will carry forward her legacy of compassion and strength. Lavern spent many years dedicating her skills and commitment to Travelers Insurance Agency in Hamden, Connecticut, where she worked diligently and was highly respected by her colleagues. Beyond her professional life, she was an active member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, where she found solace and community, always embracing her faith with open arms and an open heart. A lover of sports, Lavern found great joy in watching professional tennis and NFL football games, often in the company of family and friends who shared her enthusiasm and passion for the games. Her home was always filled with laughter and the exciting chatter of game days, moments that will be fondly remembered by those who shared them with her. Lavern was a soul who embodied the essence of giving. Her willingness to help out and lend a hand was a testament to her loving nature, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion. Her genuine smile and infectious laughter will be profoundly missed but remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A service to honor and celebrate Lavern's life will be held on March 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Colonial Funeral Home, located at 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, Connecticut. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a truly beautiful life, to share stories, and to cherish the indelible mark Lavern left on our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Lavern's name, as a tribute to her generous spirit and enduring love for others. May Lavern's soul rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of her Creator, and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
