With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Laurie Clayton Childs, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, at the age of 63. Born on October 10, 1962, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Laurie was the cherished daughter of William Clayton and Marsha Clayton (Bath). She was a beacon of warmth and kindness, known for her unwavering devotion to her family and her deep love for those around her. Laurie's life was a tapestry of love and dedication, woven with threads of cherished memories and lasting relationships. She was married to her soulmate, Alan Childs, on September 19, 1987. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership until Alan's passing on December 18, 2013. Together, they built a beautiful family, and Laurie was the proud and loving mother to her two sons, Cody and Dylan. She welcomed her daughters-in-law, Allison and Lee, with open arms, embracing them as her own. Laurie's heart was full of joy when she became a grandmother to Cade Alan Childs, her cherished grandchild, who brought endless smiles and laughter into her life. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to thrive through him and the family she adored so deeply. A true Southern belle at heart, Laurie had a passion for Cajun cooking, a skill she inherited from her New Orleans roots. She delighted in sharing her culinary creations with friends and family, bringing people together over a shared meal and a warm kitchen. Her home was often filled with the sounds of country music, a soundtrack that accompanied her through life's highs and lows, and she was a steadfast fan of the Dallas Cowboys, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty. Laurie was a woman who always put others before herself. Her compassionate nature and caring heart touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a guiding light for her family, offering support, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her sisters, Cathy and Cindy, and her brother-in-law, Douglas Childs, were among those who shared in her journey and cherished her companionship. Laurie is also survived by her father, William Clayton, and her stepfather, Fred Bath, who each held special places in her heart. In addition to her immediate family, Laurie was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Marsha, whose memory she cherished dearly. Laurie's life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of family bonds. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and dedication that will continue to inspire those who knew her. As we gather to celebrate Laurie's life, we remember her not just for the love she gave, but for the love she inspired in others. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, forever cherished and never forgotten. A service to honor Laurie's life will be held on April 30, 2026 at Houston National Cemetery.
