In loving memory of Lauren Dupree Hawkins Sr., a cherished father, grandfather, and friend to many, who passed away on June 16, 2026, at the age of 62. Born on June 3, 1964, in Memphis, Tennessee, Lawrence departed this world peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Lawrence embodied the values of discipline and service in every facet of his life. His time in the Navy was marked not just by his dedication to duty but by a steadfast commitment to his comrades. Lawrence's generous spirit and protective nature were constants, and these qualities continued to shine through in his civilian life, where he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Beyond his commendable service, Lawrence was a man whose heart and humor left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His greatest joy was found in the kitchen and in the company of his family, where he was a master at making a house feel like a home. Whether preparing a feast or sharing a simple meal, Lawrence had a unique talent for bringing people together, his laughter and warmth lighting up every room he entered.
Above all, Lawrence was a devoted father and grandfather. His children, Lawrence and Delandria, were his pride and joy, and he adored his eight grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind one great-grandchild, who will grow up with the stories of a great-grandfather whose love, strength, and commitment to family will continue to guide and inspire.
Lawrence's legacy is one of love, resilience, and unity. His memory will live on in the hearts of his ex-wife Brenda Hawkins, his children, his grandchildren, and the countless friends and family members whose lives he touched.
A celebration of Lawrence's life will be held on June 21, 2026, at 1:30 PM at the First Evangelical Church, located at 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a truly remarkable man whose spirit will forever be with us.
The Hawkins family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care during Lawrence's final moments. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to cancer research organizations, a cause close to Lawrence's heart.
May Lawrence Dupree Hawkins Sr. rest in eternal peace, his legacy living on in the love and laughter of those he leaves behind.
