Laura Mae Malcolm

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved matriarch, Laura Mae Malcolm, on July 12, 2026, at the age of 89. Surrounded by the love of her family, Laura left this world at the University of Connecticut Hospital in Farmington, Connecticut. Born on November 16, 1936, in Tampa, Florida, Laura was the cherished daughter of Price Baldwin and Pensacola Pearl Thomas. Her early years were spent in Tampa, where she attended primary school. Laura's educational journey was unique and inspiring; she completed her high school education alongside her youngest child at O.H. Platt High School in Meriden, Connecticut, graduating a year before him. This accomplishment was a testament to her determination and resilience. Laura's career was marked by her dedication to caring for others. She served as a nurse's aide in Middletown, Connecticut, and later found employment at a nearby facility where she worked until its closure. She then dedicated over 20 years to Bob’s Warehouse Clothing Store, where she touched the lives of many with her kindness and commitment. A devout woman with a love for music, Laura was an active member of Cross Street A.M.E Zion Church in Middletown, where she participated in multiple choirs as her health allowed. She also held the esteemed position of an Eastern Star during a period of her life. Gospel and old-school reggae were among her favorite music genres, and her love for singing and dancing brought joy to all who knew her. Laura's warm personality, quick wit, and soft smile were her trademarks. She found immense joy in spending time with her family, sharing meals, laughter, and stories. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life, and she delighted in serenading them with her signature song, "Dit-Da-Do," a tune even her dog Rusty responded to with tail wags. Laura was predeceased by her parents, her aunt Jessie Lee Hickson, her sister Geraldine Brown, her sons Charles Bernard Rogers and Terrell Rogers, her great-grandson Jah’eir, and her beloved daughter-in-law Theresa Ellison. Her memory will live on through her surviving children, Antonio Rogers, James Alexander, Stefanie Rogers, and Rooty Thomas; her grandchildren Nathan Rogers, Antonio Rogers, Quincy Moore, Joseph Thomas, Josiyah Thomas, Brian Johnson Jr., Shadella Rogers, and Brihanna-Rose Johnson; and her great-grandchildren Taliyah Rogers, Jeremiah Rogers, Na’Sani Thomas, Jah’eir Jr., and Jaiyah Myers. A celebration of Laura's life will take place on July 31, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Cross Street A.M.E Zion Church, located at 440 West St., Middletown, CT. In honor of Laura’s generous spirit, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone for their visits, phone calls, donations, and contributions received during this difficult time. Your kindness has been a source of comfort and strength. Laura Mae Malcolm will be remembered as a beacon of love and joy, her legacy living on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
