Laura Florence Josephine VanFossen, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, left this world peacefully on September 7, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on June 12, 1932, in England, Laura was the cherished daughter of Joseph and Laura Needham. Her life was a testament to love, endurance, and the joy of family, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Laura came to the United States in 1956 and became a naturalized citizen in 1988. After her children were grown she went back to school to become a LPN, she worked at many different hospitals but really enjoyed working in Rehab at Kessler institute in New Jersey. After she retired she enjoyed family gatherings, square dancing, motorcycle rides and camping. Laura was a woman of remarkable strength and grace, whose life was intertwined with her husband, Robert VanFossen. Laura was predeceased by her parents and her dear son Stephen Barker, as well as her sons-in-law Scott Stephens and Michael Isphording. She carried their memories with her always, treasuring the moments and the love they shared. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Robert, and her loving children, Susan Barker and Sara Stephens. Laura's warmth and kindness extended to her daughter-in-law, Robin Barker, with whom she shared a special bond. Her legacy of love continues through her grandchildren, Wesley Kervatt and his wife Liz, and Anthony (Tony) Hess and his wife Molly, who brought her immense joy and pride. Laura's affection even extended to her cherished feline companion, Mr. Pebbles, who provided her with comfort and companionship. Laura's younger years in England were filled with the love of her family, including her brother Dennis Needham and his wife Joyce. Her family will hold a private ceremony to honor Laura's life, reflecting the intimate and personal nature of her relationships with those she held dear. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Shenandoah Hospice House for the compassionate care they provided Laura in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Laura's memory to the Shenandoah House Hospice Respite Care, located at 111 North Campus Drive, Fisherville, VA 22929. This is a fitting tribute to a woman who lived her life with compassion and kindness. Laura Florence Josephine VanFossen will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and her enduring strength. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
