In Loving Memory of Latwania McNeil Johnson 'Taffy'
Latwania McNeil Johnson, affectionately known as "Taffy," passed away on October 16, 2026. Born on July 20, 1974, in Durham, North Carolina, Taffy was the beloved daughter of Wyatt Wiggleton and the late Thomasenia McNeil. Her life was a testament to love, kindness, and community.
Taffy shared a beautiful life with her devoted husband, Carl Anthony Johnson, whom she married on March 13th, 1998 in Durham, NC. Together for 28 wonderful years, they raised their cherished daughter, Leigh'Ana Eve Johnson, and built a home filled with warmth and joy. Her family was her pride and joy, and she extended this love to her godson, Tentrell Matthews, and many others she held dear.
An alumna of Hillside High School, Taffy furthered her education by earning a certification in Early Childhood. Her passion for nurturing young minds led her to a fulfilling career as a Lead Teacher at several daycares. She was admired by colleagues and parents alike for her dedication and genuine care for the children she taught.
Taffy had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her kindness and generosity touched countless lives, whether through her daily Facebook posts or the warmth she brought to every gathering. She found joy in family fellowship and was known for her love of cooking, often bringing people together with her culinary delights.
Predeceased by her loving mother, Thomasenia McNeil, and her dear sisters, Karen Lacrom and Felicia McNeil, Taffy's memory will live on through the lives she touched. She is survived by her husband Carl, daughter Leigh'Ana, her godson Tentrell, her sister Gerri McNeil, nephews Kyontae McNeil and Jacarry Powell, her godbrother Earl Powell, and many cherished family members including Connie Brunson (Al), Germaine Brunson, Kathy Torain, Samuel Torain, and Aunt JoAnn.
A service to celebrate Taffy's life will be held on October 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Hope Baptist Church, 911 North Avenue, Burlington, NC 27217. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the memory of a remarkable woman whose love and spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be given to the family.
Her husband, Carl, shares a heartfelt message, capturing the essence of their enduring love:
"From our days back in Durham, to the memories made in Burlington too, every chapter of my life was sweeter, because I shared it with you. From cooking together in the kitchen, to the laughter and the love we shared. It was the simple moments that meant the most, and the little ways you showed you cared. Through life's joys and challenges, our love remained strong and true, and if I had to live my life again, I'd still choose to spend it with you. Though I can no longer hold your hand, your love will never depart. Until we meet again, my darling. You'll live forever in my heart. With all my love, Your husband Carl."
Latwania "Taffy" McNeil Johnson will be remembered as a beacon of love and compassion. Her legacy of kindness and warmth will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
