Latrecia Adele Stone, a beacon of love and warmth, passed away peacefully in her home on August 22, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on January 5, 1938, Latrecia lived a life rich in love, kindness, and dedication to those she held dear.
Latrecia was born to her beloved mother, Emma Elizabeth Brown (Vaughn) and James Herman Morris, and was the cherished sister of Janet, James, Mildred, Lester, Esther, Madeline, Pasty Jo, Saundra, Cheryl, and William El, all of whom preceded her in death. She was educated in Ferndale Public Schools, where she laid the foundation for a life full of learning and compassion.
In 1957, Latrecia married, James Harold Hawthorne II. Together, they shared union that blessed them with nine children. Latrecia remarried to Leonard Stone in 1997, both proceeded her in death.
Latrecia dedicated several years of her life to her work as a caregiver, where her natural empathy and gentle nature brought comfort to many.
Her memory will be cherished by her children: Karen Estes (Alvin), Carlean Smith, Regina Gardner, Steven Hawthorne, Jill James, Claudia Mair, Paul Hawthorne (Lena), and LaVaughn Hawthorne. Though her son James Hawthorne III preceded her in death, his memory lives on in the stories and hearts of the family. Known for her sharp wit and loving ways, she was a guiding light to her family, especially to her 26 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, and cousins all of whom she loved and adored deeply.
Latrecia's special relatives, including her sister-in-law, Ruby Wilson, a niece Dana Vaughn, cousins Melvin Mann, and Shelia Burk, Jackie Grice, Barbara Whatley who held a special place in her heart.
A graveside service to celebrate Latrecia's remarkable life will be held on August 28, 2026, 1:00 pm. Please bring 1 (one)yellow rose to
