Celebrating the Life of LaTonya Burr
With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of LaTonya Burr, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, who left us too soon on March 28, 2026, at the age of 56. Born on April 14, 1969, in the heart of Missouri, LaTonya was a beacon of warmth and love to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unexpected departure due to a pulmonary embolism leaves a void in our hearts, but we are comforted by the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
LaTonya was the cherished daughter of Patricia Serafin and the late John A. Prince Jr., who preceded her in death. She is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, Doby Burr, who stood by her side, sharing a life filled with love and dedication to one another and their faith in God. Together, they created a loving family, raising two wonderful daughters, Tryphena Burr and Hosanna Burr, who are a testament to LaTonya's nurturing spirit.
Her family was the center of her universe, and she embraced her role as a doting grandmother to Hezekiah Burr and Cylas Jones. Her love for them was boundless, and she cherished every moment spent in their company, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
LaTonya's kindness and compassion extended beyond her family. She was a loyal sister to Lisa Prince and Clinton Prince, and they shared a bond that was as deep as it was enduring. Her mother, Patricia, held a special place in her heart, and their connection was a source of strength and comfort.
A proud graduate of David H. Hickman High School in 1987, LaTonya pursued further education at college, where she developed skills that would serve her well in her professional life. She dedicated over 20 years to Tribune Publishing Company, where her colleagues admired her work ethic and warm personality. In the years following, she served as a Warrant Specialist for the Boone County Sheriff's Office, where she continued to make a difference through her dedication and commitment.
LaTonya was an active member of True Life Baptist for nearly 20 years, where her faith and service to others were evident in all she did. Her love for God was the guiding light in her life, and it shone brightly in her role as a local coach for travel girls' basketball teams. Her influence and encouragement helped shape the lives of many young athletes over nearly a decade.
Her passions were as diverse as her talents. LaTonya loved to read, finding joy and solace in the pages of books. She was a devoted supporter of the New England Patriots, cheering them on with enthusiasm and pride. Her adventurous spirit led her to fulfill a lifelong dream of visiting the majestic Sequoia National Forest and witnessing the grandeur of whales in their natural habitat.
LaTonya will be remembered for her selflessness, warmth, and ever-present smile. She was easy to talk to, honest, loyal, and filled with an unending love that she shared with everyone she met. Her presence in our lives was a blessing, and she leaves behind an indelible mark on our hearts.
A celebration of LaTonya's life will be held on April 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Millard Family Chapels, located at 12 East Ash St., Columbia, MO 65203. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to join together to honor her memory and the extraordinary life she led.
As we say farewell to LaTonya, we do so with gratitude for the love and joy she brought into our lives. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire us and guide us. May she rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of God.
