October 2, 1938 — October 30, 2026

In loving memory of Larry Trekell, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who peacefully departed this world on October 30, 2026, at a local nursing center. Born on October 2, 1938, in Enid, Oklahoma, Larry was a beloved resident of San Augustine, Texas, for nearly six decades. Larry was the son of the late William and Eula Trekell. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret "Johnnie" Trekell, as well as his siblings, brothers Billy, Erlin, and Landis, and his sister Marilyn. Larry's legacy continues through his surviving family: his son Andy Trekell and wife Dora, his daughter Amy Trekell Bennett and husband Randy, and his adoring grandchildren, Lawton and wife Emily, Kayla Trekell Blagg and husband Avery, Larry Blaine Trekell and fiancée Shelby English, along with Brandon and Jennifer Bennett. Larry also leaves behind great-grandchildren Ava and Brooks Trekell, and Boston Blagg, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who cherished him dearly. A testament to his determination and work ethic, Larry graduated from Enid High School in 1956 and went on to earn a degree in forestry with a minor in agriculture from Oklahoma State University in 1960. Balancing his studies while working 40 hours a week and supporting his family, Larry's commitment to education was unwavering. Larry began his professional journey at Fordice Lumber Company in 1960 as a Forester before embarking on a distinguished 31-year career with the US Forest Service. A dedicated forester, Larry fought numerous project forest fires and served as a crew chief during the historic 1988 Yellowstone wildfire. Upon retiring, he founded a forestry consulting company, managing timber lands and designing and supervising the construction of numerous ponds and small lakes. A man of many talents, Larry was a true craftsman, creating beautiful furniture, cribs, walking sticks, toy boxes, jewelry boxes, and cedar chests. He was a jack-of-all trades and could fix, build, manufacture or solve about any mechanical problem he crossed. His passion for the outdoors was matched by his love for writing; he authored a book and regularly contributed articles on nature and plants to the San Augustine Tribune. Larry's wealth of knowledge and his love of storytelling endeared him to all who knew him. Larry was a devout member of the Church of Christ, deeply committed to his faith. He was a kind, gentle, and humble man, remembered for his unwavering love for his family. A devoted caregiver to his beloved Johnnie, Larry embodied love and dedication throughout their marriage. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew him as the greatest Dad, Pops, and PawPaw. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Larry's life. A graveside memorial will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Larry's memory to a charity of your choice. Larry Trekell's life was a testament to love, faith, and service. His legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
