Larry Sims
December 28, 1956 — March 20, 2026
It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved Larry Sims, who departed this world on March 20, 2026. Born on December 28, 1956, in the close-knit community of Dumas, Texas, Larry was the cherished son of the late Willie Benjamin and Mercedes Sims, who instilled in him the values of kindness, resilience, and an adventurous spirit that defined his life.
Larry was a beacon of love and joy to his family and friends, always meeting each day with a smile and an open heart. His journey through life was marked by the warmth and dedication he showed to everyone around him. On August 13, 1981, in Wheeler, Texas, Larry married the love of his life, Mary Lou Ellis. Together, they shared forty-four beautiful years of marriage, a testament to their unwavering love and commitment to one another. Their life together was filled with laughter, adventure, and the kind of companionship that served as an inspiration to all who knew them.
Larry's passion for fishing was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his appreciation for nature and the tranquility it brought him. Whether casting a line or sharing stories by the water's edge, he found peace and joy in these moments. His greatest happiness, however, was found in the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren, who brought endless delight to his days. Larry was also a devoted family man, cherishing every moment spent in the company of his loved ones, whether gathered around a dinner table or enjoying family outings.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Lou Sims of Elk City, Oklahoma, whose steadfast love was his rock. He leaves behind a loving family that includes two step-daughters, Teddy Carlile and Debbie Beck of Elk City, a daughter, Emily Sims of Oklahoma, and three sons, Scott Sims of Elk City, Mark Sims of Kiefer, and Jeff Sims of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by his brothers, Ronnie Sims and Michael Sims, both of Sayre, and his sisters, Judy Fight of Elk City and Dolly Smith of Texas. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, who will forever cherish the legacy of love and friendship he has left behind.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Willie and Mercedes Sims, his son, Larry Keith Sims, grandson, Kevin Sims, brothers, Tommy and Bill Sims, and the mother of his children, Sue Sims. Their memories and the bonds they shared remain an integral part of his enduring legacy.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Larry's life on March 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Martin-Duggar Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma. It will be a time to honor his life, share stories, and remember the love and laughter he brought into our lives.
Larry's legacy is one of love, friendship, and adventure, and it will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. As we say our goodbyes, we do so knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, reminding us to embrace life with the same boundless joy and kindness that he did every day.
