Larry Mayo
November 30, 1952 — April 5, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Larry Mayo, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this world on April 5, 2026, at the age of 73. Larry was born on November 30, 1952, in Haskell, Oklahoma, to Audrie Lee Mayo and Lavada Beatrice (Fisher) Mayo, the youngest of a family filled with warmth and love.
Larry's life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and love. He spent his formative years in Boynton, where he attended school from kindergarten through 12th grade. His thirst for knowledge led him to Connor's College to pursue law, but the call of duty saw him drafted into the United States Army, where he served with distinction as a military police officer from 1971 to 1973. Upon his return, Larry redirected his career path and attended Okmulgee Tech to study Electricity, a decision that paved the way for a long and successful career.
In 1971, Larry met Shirley, the love of his life. The couple married a year later, embarking on a journey of love and partnership that lasted 53 remarkable years. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Pethi and Dorlisa, who became the center of Larry's world, alongside his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Larry dedicated 40 years of his professional life to OG&E, where he rose to the position of lineman supervisor. He was respected not only for his technical skills but for his unwavering commitment to safety and mentorship. His influence extended beyond his work as he trained and guided countless individuals, ensuring they returned home safely to their families.
Larry's vibrant personality and zest for life were reflected in his hobbies. A passionate golfer and bowler, he achieved the honor of being inducted into the Muskogee Bowlers Hall of Fame for his years of service and dedication to the sport. He loved watching sports on television, a pastime he often shared with his family, creating memories filled with laughter and camaraderie.
Larry's quick wit, warm smile, and generous spirit were his trademarks. He had a unique gift for making everyone feel welcomed and valued, always ready with a joke to brighten the day. His kindness touched the lives of everyone he encountered, leaving a legacy of love and compassion.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Audrie and Lavada; his brothers, Dwayne and Walton; his sister, Edna Jones; and his son-in-law, Jody Jones Jr. He leaves behind a devoted family: his wife, Shirley; daughters Pethi Jones of Taft, OK, and Dorlisa Mayo of Lanet, AL; five grandchildren, Corey Harris Jr. (Lakaya), Jameelah Harris (Sean), Miracle Mayo, Kahleel Mayo Sr., and Diondra Clark; and five great-grandchildren, Malachi Roberts, Marata Roberts, Sean Donald III, Kahleel Mayo Jr., and Jeremiah Richardson. He is also survived by his sisters, Etoyce Shipp, Yolanda Wiggins, and Beatrice Pierce, and brothers, Jonathan Lee and Chauncey Lee, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held on April 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Boulevard Christian Church, located at 1700 W Shawnee St. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their phone calls, texts, cards, and kind words. Special thanks to the staff of House of Winn for their compassionate care.
