With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Larry Bailey Sr., who departed this world on May 6, 2026, at the age of 65, after a courageous battle with illness. His final moments were spent in the caring embrace of the University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, where he chose eternal rest.
Born on November 1, 1960, in Alexandria, Louisiana, Larry was the beloved son of Annie Mae Johnson-Brooks, who predeceased him along with his cherished sons, Larry Bailey Jr. and Dujuan Johnson. Despite these profound losses, Larry carried on with a spirit of resilience and love that left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Larry's life was a tapestry of diverse experiences and talents. He was truly a man of many trades, finding joy and fulfillment in roles as varied as chef, mechanic, audio installer, and machine operator. Each endeavor was approached with enthusiasm and a commitment to excellence that earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and friends alike.
His zest for life was evident in his hobbies and interests. Larry had a passion for watching movies and an ear for eclectic genres of music, which he often shared with family and friends. His skill in audio installation was renowned, as was his talent for transforming ordinary car rides into extraordinary audio experiences. A devoted fisherman, Larry found peace and joy on the water, while his culinary skills delighted those fortunate enough to share a meal with him.
Larry leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his wife, Amanda Bailey, whose partnership filled his life with immeasurable joy and companionship. He was the proud father of Tressa (Nicky) Bailey, Liana (Lala) Rice, Sherrika Bailey, Larissa Bailey, and Aiana Bailey. His love for his children was as boundless as the stars, and he took great pride in their successes and happiness.
He is also survived by his siblings, Jean Oliver and Madison (Jr) Taylor, who shared in the joys and challenges of life with him. As a grandfather, Larry's heart swelled with pride and affection for his seven grandchildren: Da'Reus Bailey, Ameer Abdul Rahman, Dameon Long, Naveah, Tatiana, Aakil Kibodeaux, and Aviana Rice. Each of them was a source of immense joy and inspiration to him. Larry also shared a special bond with his son-in-law, Damian Long, and was blessed with the companionship of numerous close associates who enriched his life.
In accordance with his wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor Larry's life and legacy. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and condolences they have received and kindly requests privacy during this time of reflection and remembrance.
