Laria Athelin Jarrett (Aunt Dimie)
December 22, 1941 — April 10, 2026
It is with heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved Laria Athelin Jarrett, affectionately known as Aunt Dimie, who left this world peacefully on April 10, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on December 22, 1941, in the serene hills of Salt Spring, St. James, Jamaica, Laria was a beacon of love and kindness to all who knew her.
Laria was the cherished daughter of Charles Jarrett and Jestina James, who preceded her in death. She grew up in a close-knit family, where she learned the values of compassion, resilience, and faith—principles that guided her throughout her life. Despite the miles that eventually separated her from her birthplace, Laria carried the warmth of Jamaica in her heart wherever she went.
Her life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and service. Laria was a devoted sister to her surviving siblings, Margaret Jarrett-White, Rosemarie Jarrett-Gayle, Simon Jarrett, and Robert Jarrett. She was a treasured aunt to her nieces and nephews, who will always remember her for her gentle wisdom and unwavering support. Her extended family included not only her relatives but also her beloved church family at Refuge City Pentecostal Church in Ajax, Ontario, where she was a pillar of faith and a source of inspiration.
Laria's journey was marked by her deep commitment to her faith and her church community. Her life was a testament to the power of service, as she tirelessly dedicated herself to helping others, offering a listening ear, a comforting word, or a warm meal to anyone in need. She found immense joy in nurturing the bonds of fellowship, and her presence was a gift to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the members of the Refuge City Pentecostal Church for their unwavering love, care, and companionship, which meant so much to Laria. Special gratitude is also extended to the staff at the Ballycliffe Long Term Care Home for the dignity and respect they afforded her in her final days.
A celebration of Laria's life will be held on May 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., at the Refuge City Pentecostal Church, located at 10 Fuller Road, Ajax, Ontario. The service will be a tribute to a life that touched countless hearts and left an indelible mark on the world.
In honoring her memory, let us carry forward her legacy of love, faith, and kindness. Laria Athelin Jarrett, our dear Aunt Dimie, will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light reminding us to live with grace and compassion.
