Lamonta Gray (Shy)

In loving memory of Lamonta Gray (Shy), who passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, at the age of 52. Born on March 30, 1974, in High Point, North Carolina, Lamonta was a beacon of joy and laughter to all who knew him. He was the beloved son of the late Robbie Lee (Blue) and Elizabeth Vonzella Lee Cannady and the cherished grandson of the late Cleo Ingram Gray. He was predeceased by his brother, Robbie Lee Washington, whose memory he carried dearly. Lamonta leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his wife, Mary Ann Gray, and his children, Tyron Bowen, Gayla Fairley, Heaven Goss, Lamont Nijay Gray, Lamontae Bethea, Shykemion Bethea, and two stepdaughters. He was also a proud grandfather to three grandchildren, and five step grandchildren and his legacy will continue on them. His family was the center of his world, and he was a guiding light in their lives. He is also survived by his siblings, Carolyn Malone Green, Vonzella Malone Payne, Janet Lee Washington, Tammy McCoy, Tumeka Smith, and Derrick Smith. Lamonta was adored by his extended family, including a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who were like family to him. Lamonta attended Guilford County School System, where he laid the foundations for a life filled with learning and curiosity. Professionally, he dedicated his time as a Furniture Delivery Driver Assistant, working for various local companies. His work was more than just a job; it was a testament to his dedication and perseverance, even as his health began to decline. Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Lamonta had an innate ability to make everyone around him feel welcome and valued. His humor and kindness were a balm to many, and his generous spirit touched countless lives. Whether sharing a joke to lighten the mood or offering a helping hand, Lamonta's presence was a gift to all who had the privilege to know him. Though he is no longer with us, Lamonta's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. His life was a wonderful journey, and his memory will continue to inspire acts of kindness and love.
