May 24, 1980 — August 2, 2026

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of LaKiesha, a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend. Born on May 24, 1980, in Sumter, SC, LaKiesha graced this world with her vibrant spirit and left it on August 2, 2026. She was the cherished daughter of Debra Shad and Bernard Burgess, who survive her. LaKiesha was a woman of remarkable strength and resilience, known for her unwavering work ethic and outspoken nature. Her generosity and kindness knew no bounds, and her outgoing personality brought warmth and laughter to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She faced life’s challenges with a fierce love for her children and a determination that never wavered. Her smile, ever-present, will be fondly remembered by many. A devoted mother, LaKiesha is survived by her beloved children: Brianna, Ashawnta (Gage), Sierra (Anthony), Ay’Ianna, Pedro, and Alondra. She was also a proud grandmother to Kiara Gillman and Kiani Gillman, who will carry forward her legacy of love and joy. Her sister, Angela Pugh, and her parents, Debra and Bernard, remain to celebrate her life and the memories they shared. LaKiesha is reunited in eternal peace with her son, Terry Shad, her Aunt Veronica Shad, Uncle James Earl Green, and Uncle Ronnie Burgess, who predeceased her. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by LaKiesha are invited to celebrate her life at a service to be held on August 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, located at 732 Branch St., Sumter, SC 29150. Her presence brought comfort, joy, and strength to so many, and her memory will continue to live on through the lives she touched. As a special message from her family: "Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near." May LaKiesha’s spirit continue to walk with us, bringing comfort and guidance in the days ahead.
