With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of LaConna Nichole Waites, a cherished daughter, mother, sister, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on June 21, 2026, at the Envive Nursing Facility in Huntington, Indiana. She was surrounded by the love of her family as she journeyed to her eternal rest.
Born on February 20, 1989, in Marion, Indiana, LaConna was a vibrant soul whose presence graced the lives of those around her. She was the beloved daughter of Thomas Davis and Yvette Waites, who blessed her with a foundation of strength and love. Her journey through life was shared with her siblings: Kevin Hill Jr., Quaya Waites, Kshawn Hill, Tenia Davis, Daysha Davis, and Thomas Davis Jr., all of whom cherished her dearly.
LaConna was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Patsy Waites and Bonnie Davis, her grandfather Jerry McBride, her aunt Veaster McBride, and her beautiful friend Kamilla Wallace. She now joins them in peaceful repose, surrounded by love and eternal light.
She leaves behind her legacy in the form of her three beloved children: Lakyla, Rionna, and Braydon Hogue, who were the pride and joy of her life. She was a devoted mother, always ensuring her children were adorned in the finest of fashion and showered with love, laughter, and endless support. Her family extended to her loving grandfather Levon Waites, step-grandmother Marva Phillips, aunts Carmen (Jerome) Conwell and Ebony Davis, uncles Vincent Wright, Andre (Katrina) Waites, and Jerry (Tasha) Davis. LaConna also leaves behind her caring stepmother, TyJus Lockett, who was an integral part of her life.
A proud graduate of South Side High School's class of 2010, LaConna's career was marked by her dedication to service and community. She worked at Applebee's for many years, where she shared her warm smile and infectious laughter, before continuing her career at the Townhouse Community Center. Her passion for helping others was evident in all that she did, and she touched the hearts of many with her kindness and generosity.
LaConna had an undeniable flair for fashion and style, delighting in dressing herself and her children in the finest designer wear. Her creativity was expressed not just in her clothing but also in her love for makeup and hair, crafting an aura of elegance and grace. Her life was a tapestry of joyous moments shared with her children, whether dancing, dining out, or enjoying movie nights at home.
LaConna's love for family gatherings was apparent in her enthusiasm for cookouts, playing spades, and her signature phrases that brought laughter and life to every occasion. Her quick wit and direct personality made her a cherished companion and a beacon of light to all who knew her.
A celebration of LaConna's life will be held on July 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Haven Missionary Christian Church, located at 845 W. Creighton Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Nelson Funeral Home for their compassionate care during this difficult time.
In the words of her family, "Forever in our hearts," LaConna's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Rest in peace, dear LaConna, your legacy of love will forever be cherished.
