La Donna
May 13, 1930 — May 29, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved La Donna Rogers, who left us on May 29, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on May 13, 1930, in the charming town of Toledo, Iowa, to Earl and Hazel Smith, La Donna brought light and grace to the world from the moment she arrived.
La Donna's life was a testament to love, commitment, and the simple joys of life. She was a beacon of kindness and a source of strength and wisdom to her family and friends. After graduating from Toledo High School, she began her career as a secretary, a role she embraced with dedication and skill. Later, she brought her warmth and efficiency to Hy-Vee, where she worked part-time as a checker, always greeting customers with her welcoming smile.
In 1950, La Donna married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" Rogers. Their marriage was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, respect, and mutual understanding. Together, they celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2020, a milestone that spoke volumes of their unwavering devotion to one another. Chuck preceded her in death, leaving behind a legacy of love that continued to thrive through their family.
La Donna is survived by her sons, Sid (and his wife Nancy) Rogers, and Phil (and his wife Nancy). Her nurturing spirit lives on in her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life. She was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Hazel, and her brothers, LeRoy, Dale, and Jerry, who now welcome her into their eternal embrace.
Throughout her life, La Donna was an ardent gardener, cultivating a verdant vegetable patch and a stunning rose garden that brought beauty to all who passed by. Her culinary talents were legendary, particularly her masterful pies, and she never arrived at a family gathering without an assortment of cookies and fudge that delighted young and old alike.
La Donna's life was marked by her commitment to community. In their many relocations, she was an active member of the Welcome Wagon, offering a warm embrace to newcomers and guiding them with her kindness and generosity. Her dedication also shone through her decades-long service as the treasurer of the Knowlwood Women’s Golf Club, where she combined her love of the sport with her passion for community service.
Those who knew La Donna will remember her as a good listener with a heart full of compassion and a spirit that was caring and generous. Her graciousness and steadfast love were the hallmarks of her character, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we bid farewell to La Donna, we celebrate a life well-lived, one that touched the hearts of many and left the world a better place. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her. May her soul rest in peace, reunited with those she loved, and may her memory forever be a blessing.
