Kirk W. Shaw

May 7, 1985 — April 11, 2026

It is with profound sadness yet deep appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Kirk W. Shaw, who left us on April 11, 2026. Kirk was at home in the comforting presence of his faithful service dog, Layla, in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada, the very place where his remarkable journey began on May 7, 1985. Born to Dean and Kelly Shaw, Kirk was cherished by his family, including his brother Lyle Shaw and his wife Mariah, their son Timothy, and his sister Brittany Smith, her husband Matthew, and their beautiful children Eliana, Harrison, Reuben, Penelope, and Charlie. Although Kirk never married or had children of his own, he was a beloved uncle and a steadfast presence in his family’s life. A proud graduate of Hartland High School's Class of 2003, Kirk went on to serve his country with honor and distinction. His career in the Canadian Forces included service as an Infantry Soldier with the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, at CFB Gagetown, and as an Armoured Crewman with Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) at CFB Edmonton. His dedication to his country was matched by his devotion to his comrades, and he carried this spirit of service into his civilian life, where he worked tirelessly in the Alberta tar sands. Kirk's adventurous spirit was as vast as the Canadian landscapes he cherished. An avid outdoorsman, he was a passionate advocate for firearms rights, a skilled hunter, and a talented tracker. His pursuits took him from fishing giant alligators in the Southern United States to tracking mountain lions in Alberta and hunting bighorn sheep in the rugged Rocky Mountains. He was known for his serious demeanor, yet those close to him knew his playful side, marked by a penchant for jokes and pranks. A man of deep faith, Kirk embraced Eastern Orthodox Christianity, finding solace and guidance in its ancient traditions. His spiritual journey was complemented by his commitment to sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous, a testament to his strength and determination. Kirk was a beacon of generosity and kindness, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a moment of laughter. His charitable nature touched all who met him, leaving an indelible mark on his community and beyond. The Shaw family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the River Valley Hospital for the compassionate care and support they provided during Kirk's final days. His life was a testament to resilience, adventure, and love, and he will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate to know him. In celebration of Kirk's life, a memorial service will be held at a later date, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations that support veterans or to Alcoholics Anonymous, continuing Kirk's legacy of service and healing. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and adventures he so cherished.
