Kevin Pettus

October 5, 1986 — March 27, 2026

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Kevin Pettus, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world far too soon on March 27, 2026, at the age of 39. Born on October 5, 1986, in Montgomery, Alabama, Kevin's life was a testament to resilience, love, and the enduring power of community. Kevin was the cherished son of Audrey Edward and the late Calvin Smith. He was predeceased by his father, Calvin, and his treasured Grandaddy, Jasper Pettus, whose legacy and stories he carried in his heart with pride and affection. Kevin is survived by his devoted siblings: Kymberly McCurdy and her husband Sandy McCurdy, Kearia Pettus, Jasper Pettus, and Judith Pettus. His family circle extended to his many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart: Kartia Pettus, La'Varcia Williams, La'Varya Williams, Adarrius Russ, Jaymon Knight, Adariana Russ, Adarrian Russ, Jayceon Pettus, Jaimiracle Pettus, Jayceonna Pettus, Jayson Pettus, and Journee Pettus. Kevin attended Lanier High School, where his love for athletics flourished. A dedicated sportsman, Kevin was admired for his talents on both the basketball court and the football field. His commitment to sports was a reflection of his discipline and determination, qualities that were evident in every aspect of his life. Kevin's teammates and coaches remember him not only for his physical prowess but also for his composed nature and his warm, approachable spirit. Kevin's calm, patient, and outgoing personality made him a cherished friend and confidant to many. His presence was a beacon of comfort and positivity, offering solace and joy to those around him. He had an innate ability to bring people together, creating a sense of community wherever he went. Tragically, Kevin's life was cut short by gun violence, a poignant reminder of the urgent need for peace and understanding in our world. His family and friends are committed to honoring his memory by advocating for change and supporting initiatives that promote community safety. A celebration of Kevin's life will be held on April 11, 2026, at 12:00 PM. The service will take place at a location to be announced, where family and friends will gather to remember a life lived with purpose and love. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations working to end gun violence or to youth sports programs, causes that were close to Kevin's heart. Kevin Pettus will be dearly missed but will forever be remembered for the love, laughter, and light he brought into the world. His legacy will endure in the hearts of those who knew him and in the lives he touched. Rest in peace, dear Kevin, knowing that you are loved beyond measure and will never be forgotten.
