Kevin Leonard Boes

January 14, 1953 — July 26, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Kevin Leonard Boes, who left this earth peacefully on July 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home. Born on January 14, 1953, in Carroll, Iowa, Kevin was a cherished son of the late Leonard and Nina Boes of Breda, Iowa. Kevin's journey was marked by a spirit of service and dedication. After attending high school, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy on March 10, 1970. During his two years of service, he was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, where he honed his skills and developed a strong work ethic that would carry him through life. After his military service, Kevin found his calling as a skilled construction worker and later as a journeyman carpenter, dedicating many years to his craft until his retirement in 2013. His work was not just a means of livelihood; it was a testament to his ability to shape and create, leaving lasting impressions in both his professional and personal life. On February 7, 1975, Kevin married the love of his life, Diane Bernholtz, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Breda, Iowa. Together, they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and shared adventures. Kevin was a devoted father to Sarah (Spencer) Davis, Jill (Cody) Wenck, Jennifer (Scott) Steinkamp, and Ryan (Crystal) Boes. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to ten beautiful grandchildren: Kaia, Addison, and Jackson Davis; Caden, Kassidy, and Karigan Wenck; Mason and Harper Steinkamp; and Emerson and Peyson Boes. Kevin was predeceased by his beloved parents, Leonard and Nina Boes; his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Karen Boes; Lynne Ann Brincks, Diane and Bill Rouff, Kathleen Underberg, Rhonda Boes, and father-in-law Glenn Bernholtz. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane, his children, grandchildren, brothers John (Carol) Boes, Keith (Kelley) Boes, Bryan (Deylnn) Boes, mother in law June Bernholtz, sister in law Ann (Dave) Staiert, and brother in law Alan (Rose) Bernholtz, along with many other family members and friends who will all carry on his legacy of kindness and humor. Kevin's life was rich with interests and hobbies that brought joy to him and those around him. He was a member of the Breda American Legion Post 607 and a parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where he found community and purpose. His days were filled with the simple pleasures of life: grilling, watching his grandchildren's sports games with pride, spending time at the family farm, indulging in endless fix-it projects, bird watching, and nurturing his garden. Kevin will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his signature mustache, and the unwavering pride he took in his family. His laughter and love will echo in the hearts of those he touched, serving as a reminder of the warmth and joy he brought into the world.
