Kevin Eugene Rex
August 7, 1959 — February 28, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin Eugene Rex, who left this world on February 28, 2026, at the age of 66, after a brief illness. Kevin passed peacefully with family by his side at Surprise Home, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and love that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Kevin was born on August 7, 1959, in the scenic town of Durango, Colorado, to Howard and Nancy Rex. He was a bright light in the lives of his parents and siblings, bringing joy and laughter with his quick wit and generous spirit. Kevin graduated from Durango High School in 1977, and shortly thereafter, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Air Force. His honorable discharge in 1979 marked the end of his military service, but his commitment to service continued throughout his life.
Kevin’s professional journey led him to Coca Cola and Lowe’s in Albuquerque, where he worked for many years, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. His entrepreneurial spirit later blossomed as he founded Vulture Peak Custom Printing & Framing in Wickenberg, Arizona, a venture that combined his artistic talents and business acumen.
A man of many interests, Kevin was particularly passionate about nature photography, capturing the stunning beauty of the world through his lens. His love for animals found a special home in his heart at K-9 Konnections shelter in Wickenberg, where he devoted countless hours volunteering and offering a helping hand to those in need. Kevin’s compassion extended beyond animals to people, as he was always willing to stop and help anyone, embodying the spirit of kindness and empathy.
Kevin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cynthia Rex, and sister-in-law, Sheri Rex, as well as his cherished grandparents, John and Lucille Parker, and Leslie and Margaret Rex. He is survived by his devoted children, Danielle and Kevin Rex, and his treasured grandchild, who was the apple of his eye. His loving parents, Howard and Nancy Rex, continue his legacy of love and kindness, alongside his siblings, Tammy (Bruce) Graham, Darren Rex, and Theda (Joe) Bailey. Kevin was also blessed with a circle of close friends, including Paul Munich and Christina Hanna, who will remember him fondly as a loyal and steadfast companion.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the medical professionals at Banner Thunderbird Hospital and Surprise Home for their exceptional care and comfort during Kevin’s final days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Kevin's memory to K-9 Konnections, an organization close to his heart, at k9konnctionrescueaz.org.
Kevin Eugene Rex was a man who lived life with an open heart and a ready smile. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we gather to celebrate his life, let us remember the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the gentle spirit that will forever remain in our hearts.
