Kerry Verdell Freeman

Kerry Verdell Freeman, born on April 18, 1970, in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on September 1, 2026, after a courageous battle with AIDS. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, DiAngelo Freeman, who left this world in 2023. Kerry was the cherished son of Willie Lou and Robert Conner, who remain to remember their son with love and compassion. Despite the challenges he faced, Kerry's story is a reminder of the complexity of human life and the journeys we each take. Kerry attended Woodlawn High School but his educational path was interrupted. His career was diverse, though he spent some time working at UAB, contributing in his unique way to the community he was a part of. Though he faced personal struggles, Kerry had a passion for basketball, a sport he found joy in, and he sought connections with those around him, always aiming to build friendships. Kerry's life was marked by moments of difficulty, and though his marriage ended, it gave him the blessing of two sons who carry on his legacy. We honor the love and memories that his family holds dear, even in the absence of his presence. In honoring Kerry's memory, the family wishes for privacy and reflection during this time, holding a private ceremony to say their goodbyes. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to local organizations supporting AIDS research and awareness, contributing to a cause that deeply affected Kerry's life.
