Kermit Ralph West

January 22, 1937 — February 24, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kermit Ralph West, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on February 24, 2026, at the age of 89. Kermit's journey began in the quaint town of Weston, West Virginia, where he was born on January 22, 1937, to his loving parents, Momma and Pappa West. Kermit was a man of integrity and warmth, known for his quick wit and infectious smile that could light up any room. He was a beacon of kindness, always making those around him feel welcome and cherished. His generosity knew no bounds, and his legacy of goodwill will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Graduating as Vice President of Weston High's Class of 1954, Kermit's thirst for knowledge led him to West Virginia University, where he earned an engineering degree that would pave the way for his illustrious career. Serving his country with honor, Kermit dedicated a portion of his life to the U.S. Navy, embodying the values of duty and service from 1954 onwards. For more than 25 years, Kermit applied his skills as an electrical engineer at Wierton Steel. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his passion for sharing his knowledge and mentoring those around him. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Kermit was an enthusiastic member of The Grand Lodge of West Virginia for over 50 years, exemplifying his commitment to community and fellowship. Kermit's personal life was enriched by love and family. Married to Nellie West for a decade, he found joy in their shared journey and was blessed with his only daughter, Diana. In 1999, Kermit rekindled a connection with Dawna Namehere, a spark that blossomed into a beautiful romance. On Valentine's Day in 2001, they vowed to share their lives together, embarking on a new chapter filled with love and laughter. An avid tinkerer, Kermit found joy in exploring the intricacies of engineering, always eager to learn and improve. His home, a testament to his passion, was a canvas for his creativity and a sanctuary for his family, including Dawna, Diana, her husband Matt Heiss, and his cherished grandson, Katherine Heiss. Kermit was predeceased by his parents, Nellie West, and four siblings, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who survive him: his devoted wife Dawna, daughter Diana, son-in-law Matt Heiss, son Kenny West, and grandson Katherine Heiss. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Charity Name Here, a cause close to Kermit's heart, at www.donationlink.here.come. The West family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Allegheny General Hospital ICU for their compassionate care during Kermit's final days. Their tireless efforts provided comfort to both Kermit and his loved ones. As we bid farewell to Kermit Ralph West, let us celebrate a life lived with purpose, kindness, and unwavering love. His memory will forever remain a guiding light in our hearts.
