It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Kenneth W. Demo, who left us on June 1, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on May 9, 1945, in the scenic city of San Francisco, California, Ken was the beloved son of Silvio Demo and Ruby Therkildsen. His journey through life was marked by his warm spirit, generous nature, and steadfast dedication to his family and community.
Ken's early years were spent in the vibrant neighborhoods of San Francisco, where he cultivated a love for creation and craftsmanship that would define his career. After graduating from John Marshall High School, Ken answered the call to serve his country. From 1966 to 1968, he proudly served as a welder in the Naval Reserve aboard the USS Marshall DD-676, stationed in Tacoma, Washington.
His passion for welding, ignited by his cherished father-in-law, Larry Fieger, led Ken to a fulfilling career. He began at the Albina shipyards and Bingham Willamette, where his skill and dedication earned him respect and admiration. Ken spent over 35 years as a welding specialist with Portland General Electric, where he was known not only for his expertise but for his unwavering commitment to excellence.
Ken's artistic spirit extended beyond his professional life. An avid golfer and a talented metal artist, his creations grace hundreds of homes across Oregon, each piece a testament to his artistic vision and meticulous craftsmanship. His work not only beautified spaces but also touched lives, leaving a lasting legacy in the community he adored.
In 2001, Ken married the love of his life, Maura Doherty, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Ken was a devoted husband and a proud father to his daughters, Desirae Natsch and Brianna Shriver, who inherit his strength and kindness. His legacy lives on through his two beloved grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his days.
Known affectionately as the "Mayor of Woodstock" by his fans and friends, Ken was an early riser with a happy-go-lucky attitude that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth and generosity of spirit extended to every corner of his life, making him a cherished friend, mentor, and pillar of the community.
As we bid farewell to Ken, we are reminded of the indelible mark he left on our hearts and the world around him. His family extends a special message of gratitude to his father-in-law, Larry Fieger, whose influence sparked Ken's enduring passion for welding.
Ken's life was a testament to the beauty of creation, the power of love, and the impact of a kind heart. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who knew and loved him. We invite all who knew Ken to celebrate his life and legacy, cherishing the memories of a man who lived with purpose, passion, and an unwavering love for those around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ken's memory to local art programs, ensuring that his love for the arts continues to inspire future generations.
