Kenneth Ray Smith

Kenneth Ray Smith, born on June 1, 1941, in Cleveland, Texas, passed away suddenly on May 12, 2011, while walking in the woods—a place where he often found peace and solace. Kenneth was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, who touched the lives of many with his warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family. Kenneth was the cherished son of Annie and James Smith, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his beloved wife, Grace Duffy Smith, who passed away in 2007, and his brother, Jerry Smith. Kenneth's passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who were fortunate to know him, but his legacy of love and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew him. Surviving Kenneth is a loving family, including his devoted children, DeAnna Wiggins and her husband Kyle, and Sheryl Lira and her husband Hector. He is also survived by his brothers, J.D. Smith and wife Rachel, and Jimmy Smith and wife June, who were not only family but lifelong friends. Kenneth was a proud grandfather to Matthew Wiggins and his wife Charlene, Marissa Lira, Benjamin Lira, and Amanda Lira, who will fondly remember his gentle nature and the joy he brought into their lives. Kenneth's life will be celebrated with a service on Monday, May 16, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in the Cashner Colonial Chapel, officiated by Pastor Bob “Bubba” Lynch. Following the service, interment will take place at Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at a visitation on Sunday, May 15, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home. Kenneth's life was enriched by the love he shared with his numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who will remember him for his generosity, humor, and gentle spirit. Pallbearers will include David Smith, Leland Smith, Howard “Howie” Duffy, David Duffy, Raymond Lynch, and Jessee, who will honor his memory by carrying him to his final resting place. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of Kenneth's giving nature and lifelong commitment to helping others. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their condolences and support during this difficult time.
