Kenneth R. Godsey Sr.
April 17, 1935 — October 2, 2026
Kenneth R. Godsey Sr., a devoted family man, dedicated professional, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home on October 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 17, 1935, in Blue Mountain, Alabama, Ken was the beloved son of Jessie Randolph and Louise Edna Godsey. Alongside his brother Tony, who predeceased him, Ken's early life was enriched by a deep family bond and values of integrity and kindness.
Ken shared a remarkable 70-year marriage with his wife, Marjorie Ann Godsey, whom he married on August 11, 1956, in Oxford, Alabama. Their enduring love story was a beacon of commitment and partnership. Together, they raised three children: Kenneth R. Godsey Jr., Mark H. Godsey, and Lisa A. Coker. Ken also leaves behind his brother, Mike Godsey, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, all of whom were his pride and joy.
A proud graduate of Jacksonville State University, Ken earned his Bachelor's Degree in History, which fueled his lifelong passion for learning and the arts. His dedication to service was evident during his tenure in the U.S. Airforce, where he served with distinction as a Sergeant in Harlingen, Texas, overseeing recreation and sports on the base.
Ken's professional journey began at the YMCA in Anniston, Alabama, where he served as Director during his high school years. After his military service, he embarked on a successful sales career with Campbell Soup before finding his true calling with Hallmark Cards for over 30 years. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own eight Hallmark stores, where he left a lasting impression on both customers and colleagues.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ken was an avid golfer and a passionate Alabama Football fan. His love for reading was well-known, often juggling multiple books at once, and his appreciation for music and the arts enriched his life and those around him. Ken's home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the joyous visits of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored him deeply.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Ken’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ken's memory to the American Heart Association, a cause close to his heart.
