In Loving Memory

Kenneth McLaughlin
September 5, 1958 — April 19, 2026
The world lost a remarkable man on April 19, 2026, when Kenneth McLaughlin, aged 67, passed away peacefully at Dozier House hospice after a courageous battle with kidney disease. Born on September 5, 1958, in Bethesda, Maryland, Ken was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend whose gentle spirit and generous heart touched the lives of many.
Ken was the cherished son of the late George and Catherine McLaughlin and is predeceased by his siblings Robert, Steve, Michael, and Barbara. He is survived by Erin, his devoted wife of forty-three years, whom he married on December 17, 1982, at Blessed Sacrament in Tallahassee. Their enduring partnership was an inspiring testament to love and commitment and a foundation for their family.
Ken leaves behind a legacy of love in his children: son Duncan and his wife Melissa, along with their children Elliot, Graham, and Mason; son Dylan and his wife Haley; and daughter Marietta and her husband Jon. He is also survived by his sister Kathy and her husband Bob, brother Dennis and his wife Jode, and brother Victor and his wife Kathleen, along with legions of extended family members and faithful, supportive friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A proud graduate of Lely High School in 1976, Ken pursued higher education with passion, earning a BA from the University of Florida in 1980 and a JD from Florida State University in December 1982. His career was marked by dedication and integrity, serving the State of Florida as an Assistant Attorney General and assistant General Counsel for the Department of Game and Fish. For the last 23 years, Ken was a respected member of the First District Court of Appeals central staff, where his legal acumen and steadfast work ethic earned him the admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Ken's faith was a cornerstone of his life. A faithful observant Catholic, he was actively involved with Blessed Sacrament in Tallahassee, St. Joseph Woodlawn in Virginia, and St. Margaret’s/St. Vincent DePaul in Madison, Florida. His spiritual commitment was matched by his love for nature, as he found joy in fishing and working with his hands, creating masterpieces without a blueprint. A devotee of the Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ken's love of music was a testament to his vivacious spirit.
Known for his legendary dry humor, Ken was loved and respected by everyone he met. His kindness and generosity were boundless, extending to his family, friends, and even strangers who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Ken's devotion to his children and grandchildren was unparalleled, their laughter a melody that filled his heart.
A funeral service to celebrate Ken's life will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1737 Miccosukee Rd., Tallahassee. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Suwannee Valley Humane Society, reflecting Ken's love and compassion for all creatures.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Big Bend Hospice, especially Kellie Wiggins, the staff of the Dozier House, and the Four Freedoms DaVita Center of Madison for their compassionate care and friendship during Ken's illness.
Kenneth McLaughlin will forever be remembered for his unwavering strength, his enduring love, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of all who knew him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
