Kenneth Ira Bird

It is with heavy hearts yet grateful spirits that we announce the passing of Kenneth Ira Bird, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Kenneth, known affectionately as Ken, was called home peacefully on March 28, 2026, at the age of 85, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his cherished home. His life, marked by devotion, kindness, and unwavering love, leaves an indelible imprint on all who had the privilege to know him. Born on February 9, 1941, in the vibrant city of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ken was the cherished son of Ira Chapman Bird and Ada Margaret Potts Bird. As a child, Ken was nurtured by a strong family foundation, instilling in him values that would guide his life. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Betty and brother-in-law Al Siciliano, brothers Gordan and Marge Bird, Don and Kaye Bird, and his beloved grandson Justen Hale. Ken is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Margaret Ellis Bird, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and memories since their marriage on July 20, 1961, in the sacred Logan Temple. Ken and Margaret were blessed with four wonderful daughters: Jeanette (and Robert Brown), Collette (and Scott Barlow), Susie (and Eric Hale), and Lisa (and Fred Bosworth). His legacy continues through his 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, each of whom he adored and supported in their endeavors. Ken is also survived by his sister Kathy Rawlings and her husband Rick, along with a community of extended family and friends who enriched his life. Ken's educational journey began in the Salt Lake area, where he formed a lifelong bond with his dear friend Steve Mitchell, a friendship he considered a cherished blessing. He attended Granite High School, later graduating from Granger High School—a milestone he held with immense pride—and completed four years of LDS Seminary, which deepened his faith and commitment to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His career spanned three decades at City Electric, culminating in a fulfilling role as the Sporting Goods Manager at Walmart. Ken's professional life was marked by dedication and integrity, qualities that extended into his personal endeavors. He was an active member of his church community, fulfilling numerous callings, with youth basketball coaching at Lincoln Ward being his most cherished role. Under his guidance, his team achieved significant success, building lasting friendships that endured through the years. An avid outdoorsman, Ken found joy in hunting and fishing adventures with his brothers and their sons. These trips offered a peaceful escape and a way to connect with family, bridging the gap of having four daughters. His love for the Utah Utes was evident, as he was a passionate fan who relished every opportunity to cheer at games. Ken's immaculate yard reflected his meticulous nature, and he was known for his quiet demeanor, kindness, and unwavering support for his family's passions. On April 3, 2026, at 12:00 PM, we will gather to celebrate Ken's remarkable life at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Cottonwood Creek 6th Ward, located at 1433 Old Mission Road, Sandy, Utah. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Soltis Home Health and Hospice and Dr. Jeff Groves for their compassionate care. Ken Ira Bird's memory will remain a guiding light for his family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will endure forever. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
