Kenneth G. Alt, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, at the age of 89. Ken was born on April 20, 1937, to Wesley and Ethel Alt in the charming town of Wellington, Illinois. He grew up with a spirit of adventure and a heart full of laughter, qualities that would define his life and endear him to everyone he met.
Ken attended high school in Wellington, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with learning and exploration. Soon after, he embarked on a journey of service, enlisting in the United States Air Force on January 10, 1955. His commitment to his country was unwavering, serving honorably until November 9, 1958, before continuing his dedication in the Air Force Reserve until January 9, 1963. Ken's time in the service instilled in him a profound sense of duty and resilience.
Upon returning to civilian life, Ken began a long and fulfilling career with Boise Cascade, where his strong work ethic and leadership skills shone brightly. A true provider, Ken worked tirelessly to ensure his family was well cared for, all the while maintaining his trademark sense of humor that brought joy to his colleagues and loved ones alike.
In 1964, Ken married the love of his life, Rita Sharon Alt. Together, they built a beautiful life, filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Ken's eyes would light up when he spoke of their son, Matthew E. Alt, and his daughter-in-law, Shirby Alt, who completed his cherished family.
Ken was a man of many passions. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in the quiet beauty of nature, spending countless hours hunting and fishing. His adventurous spirit took him and Rita across the United States twice, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Ken also shared a special bond with his brother, Rich, with whom he lovingly rebuilt a 1936 John Deere, a testament to his hands-on skills and love for family.
A proud life member of the Elks, Ken was deeply committed to community service and camaraderie. His presence was a gift to all who knew him, and his storytelling, humor, and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
Ken will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his infectious laughter, and his generous spirit. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and joy, forever etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his beloved wife, son, and daughter-in-law, Ken is survived by countless friends and extended family who will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Ethel Alt.
