Kenneth Clark Lay

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Kenneth Clark Lay, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, on April 21, 2026, at the age of 90. Kenneth departed this world from the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love of family in Houston, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and a life well-lived. Kenneth was born on March 12, 1936, in the small town of Eunice, Missouri, to his loving parents, Lucian and Edna Lay. He grew up with his four sisters, Imogene, Udeena, Betty, and Wilma, all of whom predeceased him, along with his dear son Kenny Lay and beloved grandson David Foster. In 1953, Kenneth answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army. He served with honor and distinction, achieving the rank of SSG (E-6) during his time in the Korean War. Kenneth was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and completed his service at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. His dedication to his country was a source of pride for his family and community. On January 10, 1957, Kenneth married the love of his life, Nadine Lay. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising their children Tonya (husband Gene Foster), Lexie (husband Jeff Searcy), and Kelly (wife Susie Lay). Kenneth's profound love and commitment to his family were the cornerstones of his life, and he was a constant source of support, guidance, and unconditional love. Kenneth's professional life was marked by hard work and dedication. He contributed to the construction of Highway 63 while working for the state, then served the City of Houston, and ultimately completed his career at Intercounty Electric. His work ethic and integrity were respected by all who knew him. A man of many talents, Kenneth was an active member of the Houston Eagles Club and found joy in raising and hunting foxhounds, trading livestock, and shoeing horses. He appreciated the simple pleasures of life, such as watching wildlife and embracing the tranquility of nature. Kenneth’s life was enriched by his nine grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and nineteen great-great-grandchildren, who, along with his many nieces and nephews, will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness. Kenneth's gentle spirit and caring nature touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered for his patience, warmth, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. A service to celebrate Kenneth's life will be held on April 25, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Pine Lawn Cemetery, located at 262–274 Brushy Creek Rd, Houston, MO 65483. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Hospital, an organization close to Kenneth's heart. As we say goodbye to Kenneth, we take comfort in knowing he is reunited with those he loved and lost. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
