Kenneth “Boyd”
February 2, 1960 — June 27, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth "Boyd" McFadden, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Boyd departed this world unexpectedly on June 27, 2026, while tending to his cattle in the pasture at his Mullinville, Kansas home — a fitting farewell for a man whose life was deeply rooted in the soil and values of his community.
Born on February 2, 1960, in the heart of Mullinville, Boyd was the cherished son of the late Ken and Rebecca (Price) McFadden. From an early age, Boyd embraced the richness of farm life, working alongside his father on the family farm. It was here that he honed the practical skills and unyielding work ethic that would define his life's journey.
Boyd pursued his education at Mullinville Schools, graduating in 1978. His vibrant spirit and charisma led him to an acting scholarship at Seward County Community College, where his lively antics left a lasting impression. Though his formal education was cut short, Boyd's life was a testament to the belief that learning extends far beyond the classroom.
In 1981, Boyd married the love of his life, June Muriel Boulter, in the very church where they will now gather to celebrate his life. Together, they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and shared dreams. Their union was blessed with two sons, Luke and CJ, who, along with their wives Becky and Christina, brought immense joy to Boyd's life. The legacy of his love continues through his treasured grandchildren, Jack, Will, and Scarlet, who were the light of his life.
Boyd dedicated 41 years to Northern Natural Gas, where his career flourished from a welder's helper to an operations manager. His favorite role was as a measurement technician, a testament to his love for precision and detail. Alongside his professional endeavors, Boyd's passion for farming led him to build a thriving cattle operation with his family, a venture that symbolized his commitment to heritage and hard work.
His involvement in the community was as steadfast as his dedication to his family. Boyd served on numerous boards, including the Farm Bureau Board, Hillcrest Cemetery Board, and the Kiowa County Fair Board. He found joy in simple acts of service, like chairing the dishwashing committee for the Methodist Ground Hog Supper — a tradition he relished each year on his birthday.
An avid fisherman and firearm enthusiast, Boyd's hobbies reflected his love for the outdoors and his appreciation for skillful craftsmanship. Yet, his greatest passion lay in teaching and sharing his knowledge with others, always putting the needs of others before his own. Boyd's selflessness, patience, and loyalty were the hallmarks of a life well-lived, and he was known to many as the best father, granddad, husband, and friend one could ever ask for.
Boyd is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, June; sons Luke (Becky) and CJ (Christina); grandchildren Jack, Will, and Scarlet; sisters Monica Hayse (Dale) and Brenda Murray (Doug); brother Murray; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were as dear to him as family. He was predeceased by his parents, Ken and Rebecca, who now welcome him into eternal rest.
A celebration of Boyd's life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 11:39 AM at the Mullinville United Methodist Church, 220 N. Locust, Mullinville, KS 67109. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kiowa County Fire Department, Kiowa County Farm Bureau, or the Kiowa County Ministerial Alliance.
As we gather to honor Boyd's life, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives, his unwavering dedication to family and community, and the enduring legacy of love he leaves behind. Boyd will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever guide those who were fortunate enough to know him.
