Kendra Charmaine McGill
May 31, 1971 — May 27, 2026
Kendra Charmaine McGill, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, in the embrace of her loving family after a short, courageous battle against cancer. She was born on May 31, 1971, in the serene town of Parkersburg, WV, to her devoted parents, Robert Lee Laird and Linda Lou Reed.
Kendra's life was a testament to love, resilience, and the profound impact of kindness. She was predeceased by her father, Robert, whose memory she cherished deeply, and survived by a family who adored her: her devoted mother, Linda Lou Reed; her brother, Cary L. Laird, with whom she shared a close bond; her daughters, Chasta Harkness (Matthew) of Harrisville, WV, and Jessica Dyer (Naaman) of Chesapeake, OH; and her cherished grandchildren, Hunter, Hayley, Lincoln, and Wrenlee, who were the lights of her life. Her beloved dog, Lady, was a constant companion and loyal friend.
Kendra was a proud alumna of Harrisville High School's class of 1989 and pursued her passion for healing and care by earning an Associate's Degree in Nursing from West Virginia University at Parkersburg in 1997. For many years, she worked as an independent oil and gas abstractor, where her diligence and integrity were deeply valued. Her professional journey was marked by a commitment to excellence and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of those she served.
A woman of faith, Kendra was affiliated with Spruce Grove United Methodist Church, where she found comfort and joy in worship and community. Her involvement in the church was a reflection of her steadfast faith and her dedication to helping others.
Kendra had a profound love for the great outdoors. Whether she was fishing, kayaking, gathering unique stones, foraging, or camping, she found peace and joy in nature's embrace. Her creativity flourished through knitting, woodwork, and assembling puzzles, while her passion for collecting unique items spoke to her appreciation for life's little treasures. But above all, it was her time spent with her grandchildren that brought her the greatest joy and fulfillment.
Those who knew Kendra will remember her for her quick wit, warm smile, and the remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. Her boundless generosity and deep compassion left an indelible mark on all who crossed her path. She showed us the power of love and kindness, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know her.
A private graveside service for close friends and family was held to honor Kendra's life at the Harrisville IOOF Cemetery on June 13th, 2026. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the members of Spruce Grove United Methodist Church for hosting a fellowship luncheon following the funeral service, where stories and memories of Kendra were shared in a celebration of her remarkable life.
In this time of sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that Kendra's spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a beautiful journey of love and light, and her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
