Ken Dunlop

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Kenneth James Dunlop on August 19, 2026, at Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current after a brief illness. Born on May 24, 1943, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Ken was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Ken was the cherished son of William James (Jimmy) and Viola (nee Brown) Dunlop, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his parents-in-law, Frank and Esther Hogg, brothers-in-law Russell Hogg, Larry Hogg, Don Schwedelsky, Ole Olafson, sister-in-law Jean Schwedelsky, and his grandson Travis. Ken is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 62 years, Sandra, whom he met when she was a senior at Mortlach High School in 1963. They married on November 28, 1964, and shared a beautiful life filled with love and partnership. Ken leaves behind his daughter Kendra and her husband Henry, his grandsons Justin (Courtney) and Michael (Clèmence), and his precious great-grandson Theodore. He is also survived by his sisters Doreen, Joyce (Roy), and Dixie (Dennis), his brother Alex (Brenda), and many nieces and nephews. Ken began his professional journey at Simpson Sears before following his passion for the open road. The trucking bug bit him to purchase his own semi, transporting rodeo stock and later cattle across Canada and the U.S. In the mid-70s, Ken transitioned to a new role as an order buyer for Canada Packers, a vocation he continued with various companies until his well-deserved retirement. Music was a constant and cherished companion in Ken's life. Together with his beloved Sandi, they created beautiful memories performing at wedding dances in their early years and later bringing joy to many retirement homes. Countless hours were spent playing and singing with family and friends. Ken's love for music was rivaled only by his passion for curling, a sport he played for many years and enjoyed watching. He could name most skips and their teams in every speil. A fan of the Blue Jays and the Roughriders, Ken never hesitated to share his opinions on the latest game. Ken was a quiet man, known for his generous spirit and selflessness. He would readily give the shirt off his back, asking for nothing in return. His kindness and compassion touched the lives of those around him, leaving a legacy of love and goodwill. As we remember Ken, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and the gentle strength of a truly remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ken's memory to the SPCA, honoring his spirit of generosity and kindness. Ken will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, forever in our hearts.
