It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Kelly (Decker) Wheeler on June 4, 2026. Born on May 15, 1964, in Pontiac, Illinois, Kelly graced this world with her warmth, wit, and unwavering spirit for 62 beautiful years. She was a beloved daughter to William Decker and the late Carolyn (Coffey) Pries, and a cherished sister to Kyle Decker.
Kelly's journey began in the heart of Illinois, where she graduated from Ottawa Township High School in 1982. Her academic pursuits led her to Drake University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in pharmacy in 1986, paving the way for a remarkable career that spanned over four decades. As a dedicated pharmacist, Kelly served communities throughout the Illinois Valley and the front range of Colorado with compassion and expertise.
On May 30, 1986, Kelly married the love of her life, Dave Wheeler. Together, they embarked on an extraordinary journey filled with love, laughter, and adventure. For over 40 years, their partnership was a testament to enduring love, as they built a life rich with shared experiences and unbreakable bonds.
Kelly's passion for life extended beyond her professional accomplishments. A die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears, as well as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, she reveled in the thrill of the game and the camaraderie of fellow fans. Kelly and Dave found great joy in exploring the country in their RV, discovering new landscapes and creating memories that would last a lifetime. Their ranch outside Walsenburg was a sanctuary, where they spent cherished moments golfing and tending to their beloved land.
In addition to her husband Dave, Kelly leaves behind a family who adored her dearly, including her brother Kyle Decker, sister-in-law Mary Lou Doogan, and nephews Kameron Decker, John Doogan, and Christian Doogan. She was predeceased by her loving mother, Carolyn, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Virginia and J Earl Wheeler, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.
A private funeral ceremony will honor Kelly's life, as she wished for her final farewell to be an intimate gathering of those closest to her heart. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Kelly's memory to the Salvation Army, an organization that reflects her spirit of generosity and compassion.
Kelly Wheeler's legacy is one of love, dedication, and an unyielding zest for life. Her radiant smile and indomitable spirit touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of family, friends, and colleagues alike. As we say goodbye to a remarkable woman, we celebrate the incredible journey she shared with us and hold her memory close, forever grateful for the time we were blessed to have with her.
