Keith Nelson March 5, 1935 – June 6, 2026 With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Keith Nelson, who departed this world on June 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and under the compassionate care of hospice. Keith was born on March 5, 1935, in Dexter, Ohio, to Earl and Thelma Nelson, beginning a journey filled with love, service, and an unwavering commitment to his faith and family. Keith was a man of many hats, but above all, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 68 years, Fauna, with whom he shared a remarkable love story that began on a serendipitous evening when they both held the number 11 at a dance in Bradbury, Ohio. Married on August 31, 1959, their union was blessed with three children: Terri (Ken) Kowis, Dave (Amy) Nelson, and Lisa (Tim) Durham. Keith found immense joy in the laughter and presence of his ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and he cherished every moment spent with his extended family, nieces, and nephews. Keith was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Wendell, Clifford, Earl Jr., Raymond, and Harry, as well as his sisters Phyllis (Johrent), Eloise (Diehl), and Janet (Paskievitch). Despite the loss, the legacy of his loving spirit and dedication to family continues to thrive in those he leaves behind. An esteemed graduate of Ohio University, Keith earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, which laid the foundation for his initial career as a passionate teacher and coach in football and baseball. His career path later led him to Roche Pharmaceutical Laboratories, where he dedicated 25 years of exemplary service, earning multiple President Achievement Awards for his outstanding contributions. Keith served his country with distinction, dedicating 26 years to the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard. He retired with honor in 1985 as a Colonel from the 121st Tactical Fighter Wing unit at Rickenbacker Air Force Base. His service was a testament to his courage, integrity, and unwavering dedication to duty. A man of deep faith, Keith was a cherished member of Eastland Christian Church for over 50 years. As a deacon, he served on numerous committees, embodying the spirit of community and service. Keith's relationship with God was central to his life, guiding his actions and inspiring those around him. Keith was often described as "the best man I know," a testament to his trusted, generous, and kind nature. His warmth and integrity left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Family was his greatest joy, and he found happiness in their company, cherishing the moments spent together. A celebration of Keith's life will take place on June 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Pfeifer-Woodyard Funeral Home, located at 7915 E. Main Street, Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Keith's memory to Ohio's Hospice, an organization close to his heart, at https://www.ohioshospice.org/give/. As we say goodbye to Keith, we hold dear the memories and lessons he imparted, knowing that his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he loved and served. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered, a beacon of love, faith, and kindness.
