Keith LeRoy Heapes
January 26, 1949 — May 17, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Keith LeRoy Heapes, who left this world peacefully on May 17, 2026, at the age of 77. Keith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was born on January 26, 1949, in Covina, California, to the late Thelma Louise (Ponsford) and Brent Kermit Heapes. He was predeceased by his older brother, Gary Alan, and is survived by his brother Dan, his devoted wife Ruth, his loving children Kevin (and wife Wanda) and Linda (and husband Anthony), and his cherished grandchildren, Elijah Suy, Naomi Suy, and Aurora Heapes.
Keith's journey was marked by a deep love of family, faith, and community. He graduated from Charter Oak High School in June 1967 and went on to earn an Associate Degree from San Bernardino Valley College in 1974. It was during his time at SB Valley College that he embraced Christianity, a faith that would guide him throughout his life. His baptism on May 5, 1974, was a testament to his newfound devotion. He furthered his education at Southern California College, from which he graduated in December 1976. In 1981 he continued his love for Christ with a mission trip to Calcutta, India.
In July 1968, Keith enlisted in the Air Force, proudly serving his country for four years. His service took him to Holloman AFB in New Mexico and Phu Cat and Cam Ranh Bay Air Bases in Vietnam, where he held various clerical and leadership roles. Keith's military service was a defining chapter in his life, instilling in him a sense of duty and camaraderie that he carried with him always.
After his military service, Keith embarked on a career that began at Taco Bell in Azusa and led him to work at Norton AFB in San Bernardino as both a civilian employee and in the Air Force Reserve. In 1993, he moved his family to Wisconsin to further his career with the 440th Mission Support Squadron (MSS) at General Mitchell International Airport.
Keith was a man of many passions. A devoted fan of the LA Dodgers and Green Bay Packers, he spent countless hours cheering on his teams. In his later years, he found joy in selling items on eBay and took great pleasure in spreading cheer by wishing as many people as possible a Happy Birthday on Facebook. His sense of humor and infectious laughter warmed the hearts of all who knew him.
Keith was a cornerstone of his community, having fellowshiped at Grace Church since 1994. His faith and dedication to his beliefs were evident in every aspect of his life. He loved telling everyone around him his experiences. Grab a cup of coffee and get cozy, you'll be there for a while. He was king of the Dad jokes, bringing smiles to the faces of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy as a loving and loyal husband, devoted father, and caring grandfather will be cherished by those he leaves behind.
As we say goodbye to Keith, we celebrate a life enriched by love, laughter, and faith. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. In honoring his memory, let us strive to live with the same warmth, humor, and compassion that Keith shared with the world.
