Kehlani Ross
July 6, 2002 — July 5, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Kehlani Ross, who departed this life on July 5, 2026, just one day shy of her 24th birthday. Born on July 6, 2002, in the bustling city of Chicago, Illinois, Kehlani was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. Her life was tragically cut short due to a car accident, and she passed away peacefully at Ingalls Memorial Hospital at 8:57 a.m. on that Sunday morning, having never awakened from a coma.
Kehlani was the cherished daughter of the late Lisa J. Ross and Ellis Cain. She is predeceased by her cousin Christin Ross and her grandmother Florence Cain. Her spirit lives on through her two precious daughters, Maya and Kimmy, who were the center of her world. Kehlani is also survived by her loving siblings: five sisters, Makiyah, Alexis, Lawanda, Kamile, and Kayla, and her devoted brother, Justin, along with Monty, Mason, and Carl. She leaves behind her great-grandmother Frances, four nephews and nieces, five uncles, six aunts, and a host of extended family and friends who adored her.
Though Kehlani's marriage with John Williams ended in divorce, they shared a beautiful daughter, Maya. Later, she shared a brief but meaningful relationship with Gary Evans, with whom she had her second daughter, Kimmy. As a single mother, Kehlani displayed incredible strength and devotion, raising her children with endless love and care.
A proud graduate of Harvard University, Kehlani earned her bachelor's degree in childcare with honors, boasting an impressive GPA of 4.01. Her passion for nurturing and educating young minds was evident in her work as a childcare provider. Previously, she worked as a housekeeper and a music teacher, a role where her students cherished her warmth and enthusiasm.
Kehlani was an integral part of her community, attending the House of Hope Church regularly with her family, where her angelic voice graced the choir. Her love for singing and dancing was matched only by her culinary prowess, particularly her famous chicken dishes, which were enjoyed by all.
Known for her humor and kindness, Kehlani had a unique ability to light up any room with her infectious laughter and compassionate spirit. Her dedication to family was evident in her favorite pastime—shopping trips to the mall with her sisters, which were filled with laughter and joy.
A private funeral service will be held on July 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the House of Hope, where family and close friends will gather to celebrate Kehlani's life and bid her a heartfelt farewell.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Kehlani's memory.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Ingalls Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care provided to Kehlani during her final days. To all who have reached out, offering support and comfort, the family expresses their heartfelt thanks for your love during this difficult time. Kehlani's spirit will forever guide and embrace us, as we cherish the beautiful memories she leaves behind.
