February 23, 1952 — June 8, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Kay Frances Easton Cook on June 8, 2026. Born on February 23, 1952, in Batavia, New York, Kay's journey through life was marked by grace, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. Kay was the cherished daughter of the late Laverne E. and Eleanor C. 'Lawton' Easton, who instilled in her the values of kindness and faith. She was predeceased by her sister, Norma Scibetta, her brother, Robert Easton, and her beloved dog, Snooky, who brought joy to her life. In 1970, Kay married the love of her life, Rod Cook, and together they embarked on a journey of love and partnership that spanned over four decades. Their greatest pride and joy came in the form of their miracle daughter, Melissa Cook, who survives her. Kay's deep devotion to Melissa was a testament to her generous spirit and nurturing heart. Kay's career was a reflection of her compassionate nature. She dedicated 20 years to the Genesee County Nursing Home as a nurse's aide, where she touched the lives of countless patients with her gentle care. Later, she embraced the role of a stay-at-home mom, and once Melissa grew older, Kay found fulfillment working as an administrative secretary at Batavia Downs Gaming. She approached each role with pride and a sense of purpose. A stalwart advocate for the Down syndrome community, Kay founded the Down Syndrome Support Group of Genesee County, where she devoted 20 years to educating and supporting new parents and families. Her commitment extended to her faith as a member of the First United Methodist Church in Batavia. She served as a minister of visitation, offering communion and scripture readings to those in need, and participated in the Building on Faith ministries, fostering a lifelong friendship with Pastor Sandy Kramer. Upon moving to Tennessee, Kay became an integral part of the Mary’s Chapel Unity Methodist Church family, where she received many blessings from Dr. Reverend Samuel de Zobo and Dr. Reverend Mel Hawkins. Her faith flourished, and she and Melissa established their own ministry to offer prayers and kind words to those in need. Kay’s love for Elvis Presley was well-known, her delight in his music and films a constant source of joy. She also found peace in quilting and cherished the hours spent reading on her Kindle. Her vibrant personality was complemented by an unwavering belief in the goodness of the world, captured perfectly in her daily motto: "God is good all the time; God is good." Kay's warmth and generosity were felt by all who crossed her path. She never met a stranger, and her capacity for unconditional love was boundless. A true prayer warrior, she was ever ready to uplift those in need with her prayers and kind words. A service to celebrate Kay's extraordinary life will be held on June 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Mary’s Chapel Unity Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Building on Faith Ministries or the Down Syndrome Parent Support Group of Genesee County Incorporated, organizations close to Kay's heart. Kay loved her family and friends deeply, holding them in her thoughts, prayers, and heart. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, her legacy of love and kindness enduring in the lives she touched.
