Kay Ellen Conrad

Kay Ellen Conrad, beloved partner, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2026, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was 73 years old. Born on April 21, 1953, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Kay was a beacon of kindness and strength to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Kay was the cherished daughter of the late James Doster Conrad and Doris W Conrad. She was a devoted partner to Karen Powers, with whom she shared 30 incredible years. Their partnership, beginning in 1996, was a testament to love, resilience, and companionship. Kay is survived by her loving sister, Nancy Smith, and her cousin, Larry, and his wife, Nancy Bush. Her legacy also lives on through her nephew, Tim, and his wife, Amy Ford; her niece, Jaimee, and her husband, Rob Dow McCue; along with her brother-in-laws, Mike, and his wife, Libby Powers; Robert, and his wife, Kathleen Powers; and Mark, with his wife, Terri. Her sister-in-law, Kathy, and her husband, Mike McVay, as well as numerous great-nephews, great-nieces, and countless friends, will forever hold her memory dear. A proud graduate of Loy Norrix High School, Kay furthered her education at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, earning an associate degree. Her dedication and work ethic were evident in her 47-year career as an accountant at Peerless Water Treatment in Kalamazoo, where she was not only a respected colleague but also a dear friend to many. Kay's life was enriched by her active involvement in the community. As a committed member of the Women's Auxiliary of the VFW and a former board member of the Kalamazoo Women's Golf Association, she made significant contributions and fostered lasting friendships. Her passions were as vibrant as her smile; she enjoyed collecting Fiesta dishes, reading, solving word puzzles, and engaging in spirited card games with friends and family. A service to honor and celebrate Kay's remarkable life will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Joldersma & Klein, located at 917 S Burdick in Kalamazoo, MI. Those who wish to honor Kay's memory are encouraged to consider donations to the Bronson Cancer Center or the Animal Rescue Project, two organizations that held special significance to her. Kay Ellen Conrad will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all.
