In loving memory of Kathy Thompson, who peacefully departed this world on June 2, 2026. Born on August 15, 1952, in Montgomery, Alabama, Kathy's life was a testament to compassion, dedication, and joy. She touched the hearts of many with her warmth and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Kathy was the beloved wife of John O. Thompson, Sr., with whom she celebrated 56 beautiful years of marriage. Their journey together began on January 24, 1970, in Orlando, Florida, and was filled with love, laughter, and the raising of two cherished children. Kathy and John built a life that was a beacon of strength and unity, setting a profound example for their family and friends. Kathy's parents, Clarence and Ida Oplinger, and her son, John O. Thompson, Jr., predeceased her. She is survived by her devoted husband, John, and her loving daughter, Miriah (John) Nelson of Polk City, FL. Her legacy continues through her sisters, Carol Smeltzer of Orlando, FL, and Donna Gibson of Bolivar Peninsula, TX. Her grandchildren, Logan P. Thompson of Titusville, FL; Savanna J. Nelson of Lakeland, FL; Jacob M. (Skye) Keister of Lakeland, FL; John S. Nelson of Colorado Springs, CO; and Aubrey M. Keister of Polk City, FL, were the lights of her life, bringing immense joy and pride. A proud graduate of Edgewood High School in 1970, Kathy furthered her education at Valencia College, earning an AA degree in General Studies. Her lifelong pursuit of knowledge led her to continue studies at Polk State College in Lakeland, FL. Professionally, Kathy excelled as a Customer Service Supervisor for 7-11 Stores in Orlando until 1990. She then embarked on a fulfilling career as a Senior Manager for Saddle Creek Logistics Services, where she worked until her retirement in 2018. Kathy was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in Lakeland, FL. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she demonstrated it through her actions. For over 14 years, she taught Children's Church and Sunday School, and she took immense joy in driving the church van to bring children from the community to Sunday services. Kathy's commitment to helping others extended beyond the church as she participated in numerous March of Dimes marathons, raising funds for the welfare of babies. Her creative spirit shone brightly in her exceptional talents as a painter and crafter. Kathy was also an avid gardener, nurturing both vegetables and flowers with loving care. She found joy in the great outdoors, whether through running or simply taking in the beauty of nature. Kathy was known for her warm smile and quick wit, always ready to share a piece of chocolate to lift spirits. Her gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued was unparalleled, and her kindness enriched the lives of all who knew her. A service to honor and celebrate Kathy's life will be held on June 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church, located at 8550 State Road 33 North, Lakeland, FL 33809. The Thompson family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Good Shepherd Hospice and Chapters Health Hospice for their extraordinary care and compassion. Kathy Thompson's life was a masterpiece painted with love, dedication, and grace. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate to be part of her world. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
